P0717 input turbine speed sensor circuit
I have an 07 gl450 with 175000 miles and today the transmission started to not shift. I pulled over and read the codes and the a new one had come in it was the P0717. P0814 and never had any issues the transmission shifting. I was able to restart the vehicle we were able to get back on the road. My question is would performing a transmission flush help? I contacted my local shop who reccomended replacing the valve body with a new unit. The cost was going to be around $2200. I was wondering if anyone had sent their units for repairs Instead of a complete replacement along with being programmed by a dealer.

Yes, a flush might help for a while.
what’s going on is that your valve body contractor plates are dirty and making sporadic contact with the shift solenoids, which triggers codes and then your 7g goes to limp home mode - locking you in second gear.
is that what you’ve got?
it might be worth a $400 flush to get the last remaining life out of your tranny before you shell out $2k + for a valve body replacement. Which in any case will need to go to a dealer or a special Indy for coding, either by flatbedding the car or shipping the valve body.

The local does have the ability to assign the Vin to the valve body. The problem i had to today was a first. We went to take off from a stop light and we were in second gear. We were able to get going ans it started shifting and then it wouldn't downshift until shut the car down and restarted. The big problem is I am 10 hours from home wanting to head home tomorrow. I am wondeing if the connections can be repaired or if they have to be replaced with a complete unit. I also wonder if the valve body replacement Includes all of the parts Including conductor plate, tcm and solenoids.

I had this happen once on my ‘07 with about 119k on it, and a flush got it going with no further incident for another year / 10k miles…your mileage may vary.
it would go to lh mode and when cooled down start and shift normally so I caught mine at the onset.
I had this happen on a previous R500 once as well and the dealer replaced the entire valve body with the newest version, so all parts were changed - your Indy may have something different in mind.
but retaining and just cleaning the contractor plates is seldom successful.
