Also it dawned on me that I may have been using too small a resistor. I just upped them to two 22ohm 5watt resistors in parallel each end. This gives me 11 ohm at 10 watt each cap. I used wire wound resistors so they should behave as similar as practical to a coil

Sofar no codes. I think the previous resistors may have blown I did put a dc clamp meter on one of the wires before the plug to check current but failed to get any readings when someone toggled through the shocks switch. Can only assume the current is for too short a time for the clamp meter to measure

I did some calcs with the voltage equals current times resistance and hopefully got about 10 watt

I will see how it goes and report back. Will also see if I can find the previous resistors i use to see if they are blown
Did the new resistors do the job? I disappeared off the face of the earth for a bit.

Is there any difference between ADS and ordinary shock, when the solenoid is not engaged/energized? Is the valve port closed so the dampening characteristics are same on both? They are identical except the ADS cylinder.
Thank`s
I'm not sure if the ADS shocks are valved/tuned the same as non-ADS. The challenge with using ADS shocks on a GL which is not equipped with ADS is that you don't know where the ADS valve is positioned. It could be in any of the three positions. You might be able to actuate the valve to move, but that would require knowledge on how much current to apply to achieve each of the settings.

You should either return or sell it and buy the correct part for your GL.

I got sidetracked till last week. A few days ago got back into it the second photo is out of order. Final stage. All wrapped up in insulation tape. Taking care to separate the conductors

Resistor pack. 2 of 10 ohm 10 watt

Wrong order. Finally

Resistors tail ends in socket. Wire is from other end of resistors (joined). I just soldered the tail offcut onto end of wire as it seemed good fit to socket. Had to grasp the tail with needle nose pliers a mill at a time to push into socket or the tail buckled

That would be much appreciated. I also lost track of this and also lost the understanding of why this trick ****ery is necessary.

quick answer for “why” is to save money.

My understanding of the Arnott sk2687 is that they are non ads but with their own trickery to fool computer. These cost me close to $1200 Aud (local stockist/importer) while a set of monroe cost $160-180 Aud. I have had a set of Monroe in an ML and they have done more than 130,000km so far no problem.

MB ADS rear shocks cost $1530 Aud each ($3030 pair/set)

hope that explains the why

Thank`s Expl0rer, I agree, No use to make the car handle worse perhaps dangerous with different type of shocks.

absolutely. Thanks - as more of us become willing to give up the benefit of ADS functionality in the face of stupendous cost, this knowledge will be invaluable.

At this stage still a work in progress. The resistors seem to work fine if you leave it in “sport” setting

if you come out of sport shortly later get an error which is for valve 1. One time left. Next time right.

might try 2/22ohm resistors in parallel for each valve (as previous). And see how i go

will take a while. Busy
