Rear struts out of alignment!

I have a 2007 GL450
I’ve had various issues with my AIRmatic suspension which I’ve FINALLY gotten fixed by changing the compressor AND valve block!
Everything seems to work now but the rear drivers side strut is not aligned flush.

is this a problem?

Yes, the slot needs to line up with the cutout in the lower arm otherwise the bag will be somewhat bent.

sometimes it fixes itself with a loud *SPROING* or other onomatopoeia

Or you can help it by jacking that wheel up, deflating that bag enough to rotate the slots to line up.

glad to hear it’s now (almost) sorted!

Yeah, half a monster can worth of sag in 7 hrs is out of spec. (10cm per 24 hr period, which amounts to half a german litercola).
New bag?

🤣🤣🤣

I had Midas spray it down with soapy water and they said they didn’t see anything but I’m guessing it could be a slow leak or even be at the top. I’m going to change it today and pray it’s not the hose

I'm wondering how the strut could misalign. During install? If the valve connecting to the airline points inwards like the original strut, the misalignment shouldn't occur. I have a hard time seeing it happening once the strut is installed and the line connected.

Edit: ignore me. I just noticed that the strut spring was not seated properly. I was looking at the arrow and slot where it should fall into place, thinking that they were out of alignment. Doh!!!!

Just FYI, apology in advance.

Strut is a term to describe a unit that combines spring and shock absorber,

This is what your GL has in front.

in rear, your GL has separate springs and shock absorbers. Your problem was with the spring … which in the case of Mercedes Airmatic is a rubber air bag.

Good catch and correction on the terminology. Edited my post to reflect correct terms.
