Rear Heater Core

In case anyone is wondering where the rear AC and heater core are, here ya go. You have to remove the false floor under the spare tire to reach the lower part of it. I think mine may be leaking. Wanted to flush it directly, but can’t find the inlet and outlet. That would tell me quickly, plus it needs done. Looking at the insulation I can’t tell if it’s that, or the classic Mercedes leak from the rear.

I thought there was only a rear A/C? Are you sure there's a rear heater core?

All of the guides show there is… it’s a part that you can order. Dunno… I’ll find out in a week because I want to remove it and see if there are any leaks behind it.

Funny, I've never looked that close, myself. But I have come across "readings" that say the front heater core is used for both front/rear heat. But I have no hard-n-fast info to say for sure - hence the question.

Are you losing coolant? If you're not losing coolant, I'd say there's probably no reason to go digging?

There was a super duper ("three zone") climate option available. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Notably there also are optional overhead vents.

I think the rear "heater core" is actually the rear evaporator.

Possibly the "leakage" found is condensate.

Eric, I believe 3-zone simply means: "Driver", "front passenger" and "rear".

Oh I know. I was just wondering if the fancy pants stuff means they also put a separate heating unit back there.

The designers like to pretend they're working with a jumbo jet.
