I'd be more worried about the wheels off the S not being designed to handle the weight of the GL. You can always change the tires to a suitable size. Look for GL(S) and ML/GLE wheels.
I found some 22s off a S550 that are 22x10 but the tires are Delinte Thunder D7 285/25ZR22 95W XL
I'm a bit worried that the tires won't work or will look weird
Not only are those wheels not designed to handle the weight of your GL, those tires are just junk.

lol I have narrowed it down to several factory selections and one set up I seen on offer up that I might just run with until I really find what I want...
it seems like there are a lot of replica's out there that arent actually factory. Not sure if that is good or bad.
I wish I knew the make and model of this wheel though
In a staggered setup your front and rear tires' diameters need to be within 1%. That will limit your tire selection. It will do nothing for your GL's performance. Stay with same size wheels and if you buy tires which are not directional you can rotate them diagonally. This will help with tire wear to be more even and all tires to last about the same. You won't be able to do that with staggered wheels and your rear tires will need to be changed more often than the fronts. Probably more often than you want to buy tires.

Ok thanks…right when I think I finally found something I’m back at square 1
what are your thoughts on hub adapters? I found some wheels but they are 5x130
I can't take credit. There were several suggestions about sources.
If you tow, I would strongly suggest against them. If you don't tow, the GL weight would be a bit of a concern for me, but buying from a reputable company like H&R should be alright. Talk to them before purchasing to get any questions answered.
Purists will tell you that it's better to just get the right wheels and not deal with adapters, and they are correct. Adding adapters introduces a new potential point of failure.

You will need to take into account the thickness of the adapters to calculate your actual offset. I'm not 100% sure how thin an adapter can be, but let's say that the thinnest you can buy is 20mm. The wheels have offset ET+42. New offset with adapters will be ET+22 (you have to subtract the adapter's thickness from the offset). The lower the number in the offset, the farther the wheels outside of the wheel well. This will make the wheels poke quite a lot from your wheel well. Even if you have the 550 or the AMG appearance package on a 350 or 450 which has fender flares (I don't think you were a fan of those flares), those wheels will be poking out of the wheel well. ET+42 is already high for the GL. Keep in mind that most OE wheels will be in the ET+50/60 range. Exceptions are AMG wheels which are in the high 30s (ET+37 for the 21 " wheels which were standard on the X164 AMG appearance package) to low 40s (I have seen AMG 20" wheels with ET+41 for 20 from a W166). So to get a wheel to sit relatively flush with your fender you need something around ET+70. I'm not sure these exist unless you were to custom order.
If new wheels are too cheap should I be concerned? There is this guy selling wheels for like $800-$12000 and they have a site but I just don’t wanna buy and they bend or chip easily

$800-12000 is a huge price range. What's the price point for your GL?
What do you mean by bend easily? If the wheels are painted and finished properly, they should not chip. Ask the seller what the painting/finishing process is for the wheels you want. Do they offer any warranty?

the range is from the different wheels I was looking at…I haven’t even checked about the warranty to be honest
maybe I have been reading too many factory calls aftermarket posts
Are those in the US or China? Either way, the rims look to be from China. IMHO, the best wheels you can get will be made in Germany or the US. There are some that have wheels manufactured in China but are from US based companies and the wheels are fine. You can get a nice affordable truly forged wheel from China. It is going to take a month or two due to the Covid lockdowns, but they will be nice.
Ask if the wheels are TUV rated? What is the load rating? What do they weigh? What is center bore? What is offset? What is the width? Lots of questions to ask on wheels but the most important for an SUV is the load rating. Wheel weight will give poor mileage and that is exacerbated by the diameter of the wheel. The larger the diameter of the wheel the worse the mileage. Even if, let's say the wheels are 22" and the wheel is the same weight as the 20", by going to 22" wheels you will still see worse MPG's just due to the weight being further from the center point.
I prefer to buy US made goods but that is often difficult. Let's take the iphone. There are people in the US who prefer iphone but they are made in China. While those same people will buy an iphone and then say Chinese goods are crap. There's that. The point is, do your research and make sure you trust the wheels you are putting on your car.
I started having issues with my tires which was one of reasons I was looking so aggressively. I decided to pull the trigger on a staggered set just to get an idea of what bigger wheels would look like. The wheels came off a GL previously and the guy made sure the circumference was right so I haven’t gotten my dash errors. I absolutely love the look BUT the ride is less to be desired. I feel the car rocking back and forth on the highway and it’s not as smooth. The guy said I need an alignment but could that cause that many issues?
You’ll inevitably have a degraded ride when you have what really amounts to a couple of layers of electrical tape between you and the road.
but take this back to tires - what brand and compound are these?
lol at couple layers of electrical tape…
i don’t know what compound means but upon investigation it seems like the front 2 tires are a different brand (good year and Hankook) and the rears are matching Pereli…
