I honestly forgot about this until I received the new recall notice from Mercedes-Benz (not dealer) informing me parts were in and to schedule an appointment for replacement. Maybe your letter is coming...or, maybe being the dealer never inspected it, you won't get the letter stating parts are in being they don't know if you failed step one or two?? Who knows.

I got the replacement notice yesterday after getting it inspected last year. They found rust on it, but the spots were smaller than the maximum spec. I didn't realize they planned to replace it later.

Yeah, I simply cannot and will not let my car go to cold steel and encourage whole bunch of other problems to appear just so they can cover their asse(t)s legally.
Not that there’s anything wrong with my booster, but in the off chance that they did find a speck of rust on it and decide to ground it, it basically becomes a parts car because you can’t leave these cars sitting for six months when they reach this age. And what I get back would then be much less worth to me than a running and operating X164.
your mileage and risk appetite may, and probably should vary on this. End disclaimer.

I don't think they have the ability, at least not yet in Amerika, to condemn the vehicle.
Insurability might be a thornier issue. But if that is the case, there is no reason your insurance company couldn't just do that unilaterally.

No, I wasn’t saying condemnation, but you know how an x164 gets when it sits in a lot for six months and let the battery die down… The second you put power back on you’re going to fry wheel sensors, and who knows how much water is leaked in over the time it’s just sat there… Basically accumulating another laundry list of stuff that the dealers gonna wanna do for you.
Don’t willingly put your car in hock is all I’m saying.
