2010 GL450 no crank/no start
My wife’s 2010 GL450 had recently had long cranks and we figured it was the battery. After replacing battery it seemed fixed but then the long cranks started up again. Finally we came out and it wouldn’t crank at all. Has anyone had a starter go bad and fry the EIS? My EIS is not recognizing the key going in but I have power to everything on positions 1 and 2. It just won’t crank. I pulled starter and checked it, the solenoid had grounded out so I was getting a short to the starter wire. Threw a brand new starter in and still no start. So I ordered and iCarsoft meter and did a diagnostic showing me that the key did not get recognized going in to the EIS. I get output on circuits 15 in all positions and if I try to crank quickly I get output on circuit 50 but still no start. Not sure if the EIS can be reprogrammed or if I need to replace it. I was able to run a wire down to the starter and removed the factory wire, then while key is in #2 position I can start it by touching wire to positive post. Doing this it runs and drives fine but throws up a bunch of codes from the EIS not communicating with other modules. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you.
