Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Check for water damage in the trunk or under drivers seat.

What he's referring to is an issue that plagues all of these cars... under the seat (and in the trunk) are computers. If a leak develops, the computers go haywire. That's what you're going after - not just a simple cable or sensor. Somewhere I have a picture of what's underneath my passenger's seat - I'll post it later. POSSIBLY just drying things out real good will good... possibly. (assuming this is the issue, of course).

I wonder if it would make sense to put a water-triggered sump pump down there.

At the very least, weep holes.

A "bilge pump" (boating world. You wouldn't want the kind with separate float switch - instead an electronic one that senses the water.

Or maybe just a simple water sensing alarm would be easy solution. You can buy a battery operated one of those for about $10. I use one to let me know when the Christmas tree water reservoir is full.

I'm pretty sure there is a plug that can be removed from underneath the vehicle? If a duckbill valve was installed in the drain... maybe that would solve the issue of keeping stuff (and mice) from getting back in?

Passenger side, with seat removed. I've never removed the driver's side seat - I don't know what's under that side.
