Hey guys! Not new here but this is my first post and I’ll try to explain the best as I can about my issue.
Just got this 2007 GL450 with obvious issues because was sitting very low on airbags. Got the car to my shop finally and next day I was trying to diagnose the issue with my DAS. Got the battery ( new H7) from my 2008 E350 Station Wagon and soon as put everything together just realized that rear light are on all the time, with or without ignition on. I want to mention that the light switch was always in off position. After this,I realized also that the radio has no sound but turn on, fuel gauge doesn’t work, brake wear light on ( new pads with new sensor), no wiper movements. Went forward and I start diagnose every single module and found a no CAN communication to rear Sam. Replaced the rear Sam twice with 2 different modules with same part number and the issue still the same.
I want to mention that the previous owner replaced the alternator and couple of other parts. I will start checking the CAN ( low and high )between rear SAM and front left pre fuse box but I need to hear some other diagnostic ideas or maybe to guide me to other threads. Thanks
I would say picture 4/5 says it all. You have replaced rear SAM multiple times then that would mean go to the next step. Pic 4 mentions checking the network. N10/8–>X30/5–>X30/4–>X30/7–>N93. So its Rear SAM onto right rear connector distribution onto right front connector onto left front connector then Central Gateway. I would do a wire continuity points between all the points.
Look for red arrow/asterisk Look for red arrow/asterisk Look for red arrow/asterisk
Rear SAM connector G pin 16 and pin26
NOTE: Your signature is labelled as “W166” but your diagnostic reader shows “X164”.

Thank you for all the good pics that you send me! I’ll hit my shop right now and start looking for shortages in the CAN network. I will keep you posted soon as I have some news. Thanks again!

Yes,you are right,my signature shows W166 because that’s my daily. I have in my ownership the following:
2004 W211 White E320 Station Wagon 4Matic
2007 W211 Blue E350 Station Wagon 4Matic
2015 R172 White SLK250
2019 W166 GLE 43 AMG
and now I just got this 2007 X164 GL450 Lorinser with issues.
Delicious! Love that blue/green stuff you have there. Probably beyond repair and looking for a replacement is your best option. Also, repair the seals when you can. Or just drown the seals with sealant compound. If it works, it ain't stupid.

I tried to clean everything but no luck! When I powered up the rear SAM (after cleaning) makes some creepy sounds that you don’t want to hear it. Like multiple relays going crazy
