Installed Android head but can't get the OEM camera to work. I have the adapter but nothing happens. Any suggestions. The head does recognize the car in reverse.

 

Hi. I have a GL450 2006 where I have installed a new head unit from Pioneer. I used a plug n play connector to avoid cutting cables. It worked well, but lead to more issues that I have addressed partly with professional help.
The reverse camera: I managed to get a picture, but the response signal the HU needs to know the car is actually in reverse needs to be re made. I swapped to a new camera at the same time. The cable needs to run from your reverse light at the rear to the head unit for camera to work. It is well worth swapping the camera too when you do this as the quality difference is massive.

I had to swap the speakers and amp as the OG Harman Kardon is to sensitive for the new head unit and created a horrible sound, and they are crap to begin with and has deteriorated a lot over the years.

To get the most out of this I installed a new amp after the original amp, that has been left in.

I am now in the process of swapping the dash centre treble speaker and the rear top surround sound speakers.

Its a lot of work, but its improved the sound massively , given me a Android / Apple car play head unit and a top notch reverse camera.

What year? Earlier (I think 08/09) have the video signal as a part of one of the harnesses and require some surgery to the appropriate wire to add an RCA output.
