Oil leak
Was changing the right head lamp and saw this.

What is going on here?

Leaking valve cover and possibly timing case cover. Looks like someone has worked on this at some stage given the sealant that seems to be poorly applied?

Thanks for this. This might not be the worlds most expensive jobs to get a mechanice to fix?

I’ve had it for about four months. Its been in for a service every year in the log book, but no idea about what other work thats done or by who.

If that is what the problem is, yes its a simple fix. Probably a new gasket set and some proper sealant. Im not even sure these have a gasket - might just be sealant. The camshaft position sensors at the front of the timing case also leak on these They should be checked. You want it to be the valve covers. Thats easy and inexpensive. Find yourself an independent MB mechanic and form a relationship if you haven't already.

brilliant info. Thank you! Yes, I have a indy mechanic shop where all employees from same damily drives MBs. They done airmatic and servo pump so far. I will get them to have a look 💪🏼

Whilst they're their get them to check the camshaft position sensors for leaks. Some of these engines leak oil there and it somehow flows upwards (probably due to airflow at speed) and into the wiring loom they're attached to and then into the ECU which fries itself. That's an expensive fix. Unlikely that's your problem looking at the picture, but you might as well get it checked out as they're right there.

Yeah that sounded expensive 😬😬😬

any visual indication to this? I don’t see oil spillage anywhere else
