I have a 2007 GL450 that didn't come with the tow package so I got am OEM tow hitch and installed it on my GL but now I'm trying to figure out how to wire up the trailer plug for the trailer lights. I know GL's with the OEM package came with a module to control the trailer lights but is there a way to just splice the plug wires in power, brake, ground, and turn signals?

You can always just cut into the rear tail light harness and make your own wires. Not too sure how you'd control the braking force without a proper brake booster though.

You can tap into it using any of those universal modules. You will want to use the universal modules that have their own separate power wiring. Putting additional load on the car's harness is liable to cause errors.
Check your rear SAM version. If you have a newer version, all you need to do is get the OEM harness, plug it into your rear SAM, and enable trailer detection in the central gateway and rear SAM with Xentry (any indie with Xentry should be able to do this).
