Chirping noise from transfer case/transmission when in P
There is a chirping noise from the transfer case/ transmission area when my GL450 is in P, the noise goes away if shifting the transmission to R or D.
I've also noticed oil leak around bottom of transfer case, wonder if they are related.
Will the car roll with Park engaged?
don’t do stupid things trying to test that out. Be safe.
It will not roll when transmission is in P
Friend told me the leak might be due to pinion seal, and it is costly to replace the seal. maybe for now I'll just regularly fill up the transfer case fluid?
He also said the noise could be due to old transmission mount.
I recall skimming the procedure, probably in WIS, and summarizing it as: Support the transmission with a jack; unbolt the crossmember, unbolt the mount. Reverse to replace.
