Batteries
I think the time has come to replace the battery on my 2011 GL450. Do I need to use the Mercedes Battery or can I get a replacement like the DieHard or Duralast?

Battery replacement
I personally try to get a battery off the shelf preferably AGM that has been built in the last 2-3 months. Many stores love to dig out the 8-10 month sitting on the shelf stuff. I have had great luck with Interstate batteries and we have a local warehouse with great fresh inventory. ok good luck Bill

Keep in mind there are only two or three (I forget) North American battery manufacturers. Nearly every battery you see comes from one of them.
Freshness is more important than source. Get one from a retailer with high turnover. I bought a premium battery, supposedly from the best manufacturer, from Autozone. It was DOA because it had been on the shelf for a year. While Interstate does not source from the top tier (Exide?) their turnover is high.
And be sure to get an AGM battery. There are wet cell batteries available, but there life is much shorter (roughly half) and will leak battery acid on your passenger's butt if you roll over.
Put a good battery maintainer on your vehicle if you are going to leave it parked for more than a few days. There is standby drain. No sense in wasting the battery's life on monitoring for wakeup signals.
