Mercedes GL450 2006
Hard shifting (GL450 '06 x164)

Basically the car shifts hard between 1-3 and back 3-1.

Also if I am in a traffic jam driving in 1st gear and slowly braking, it feels like I am on the edge of turning the engine off the whole time because of low rpms.
(I know that's normal but the car shakes a bit too much and too often when driving in that condition).

Should I get the transmission valve body and the conductor plate replaced? Or is it something else?

Also I am not sure if it's a 722.6 or a 722.9 transmission.

Thanks in advance.

Cold

You’re actually in second gear when you start off.
the 7G rarely sees first gear in normal use.

if you have a first year X164 it’s gonna be the 722.9, aka the 7G. It has seven forwards and two reverse speeds, thereby the .9.

See if you can replicate it by manually shifting D3-D2-D1 and do both when cold and warm.

symptoms of the conductor plate failing is the transmission locked in second gear as a limp mode.

7 speed

I would highly advise to first read all possible transmission codes. If no codes I would drop the valve body and take all the shift spools out (8) and inspect the O-rings and clean all the screen filters on them also.. brake cleaner or just soaking them and clean the screens. I can give you the sizes and where to order or just search my recent post and you will see the info . MB only sells the shift spools with the Orings at something like $75-100 per. Orings with shipping will be around $25-30 for all 8 sets.
I rebuilt my 2008 with new Orings after some Limp mode issues and cleared it up and also helped the shifting . The Orings get cracked and allow pressure to get by them or Orings fall off completely . In the picture with the blue Oring broken was on one of the brake controls and the error was “trying to put two gears in at once”.
Also my experience with 7 speeds..2006,08,09,11 the worse by far was the 2006 in a ML500. We had to send the board off and get a few sensors replaced.. We constantly had errors popping up. There is a source in Jersey with a great turn around time.. I can get that info from my son he sent the board.
Ok good luck and let me know if I can help???
