I'm Jen the Mr bought an 08 GL320 on the weekend. Beautiful beastie in immaculate condition inside with just a couple of dints externally.

I joined up here to read up on the head unit while it works it's, not great and I really want a reverse camera. so I want to replace it as soon as I figure out if that's possible and won't stuff up the computer side of things.

Welcome, I've had our GL320 for about 7 years now, great vehicle, loads of towing power, wife loves it!

As for the reverse camera, my wifes has it from factory. So you can go that route, instead of aftermarket. With these vehicle's being older now, should be easy to find a used camera system online and rig it up.

 

To.upgrade the sound you really need an amp. The Harmon Kardon system that was an option on these cars is very good and satisfies most people. That will also allow for a reversing camera. Hit thr wreckers yards and see what you find. Be prepared for units that work ok but the CD changed doesn't. You can still hook up a dongle for Bluetooth music.

 

Wifes GL has that system, sounds really great, still. There is an AUX plug on the left of the glovebox, I just have and older iPhone loaded with music that gets plugged into that for tunes. Plus I've loaded the 6 CD changer as well. (had to go digging around the basement for the CDs lol)
