Shorter V-Belt Available

V-belt snapped last evening. I believe the AC Compressor seized. I don't have the time right now to replace the AC compressor, so I was wondering if I can put a shorter belt on and bypass the AC compressor?

In short, yes. But I'm not looking at my engine nor a belt diagram to say for sure in terms of how it will route. Will the belt still physically make the trip with no issues? Hitting something... groove vs smooth... etc. Although, at least for a somewhat short period of time, it might be OK to forgo the groove vs smooth part.

Take a look at what the new route will be - if it looks good, go ahead and measure. Any string/rope/webbing that doesn't have a stretch will be fine.

I'm guessing you should then take about an inch off of that measurement. But measure the existing route with the belt not on and compare to the belt length - subtract about the same from the new length.

Seeing this in another post so I saved it for future reference. I'm told that this belt will fit when bypassing the ac compressor.

Thank you, both. The 92.52 belt was entirely too long. I am assuming that is the belt for a gasoline/petrol engine and I have a diesel engine.

Long story short, the OM642 diesel will need a 78.5 belt to bypass the A/C compressor.

Unfortunately, the belt rubs on the seized A/C clutch and I didn’t check until I had everything back together. It will be fine for the short term (2 short trips this weekend) but I need to see if I can remove the clutch from the A/C compressor. If memory serves, I don’t think the clutch is replaceable on the GL350 compressor.

Thanks again for the support and hopefully this can help the next person stuck in a pinch.

Yes, probably should have. GL350 was in my profile under my username on the post, but would have been beneficial to post from the start.

I noticed...

I "think", though, that sometimes that doesn't show up when someone is using their phone "vertically"? I usually use a computer, though. But there was another forum where I noticed with my phone vertical that I would't see the signatures... but held horizontally I could see it.
