GL as a 5 seater

Love the new shape but don't need a 7 seater. I am assuming that the 3rd row can remain folded down and I could buy a floor mat to cover that area. Is that correct? Also can the cargo cover go from the second row to the trunk door?

Thanks.

I never use the 3rd row seats either, they power fold down and you can get many different types of cargo trays that will go all the way back covering the 3rd row seats that folded down.

heres one covering the 3rd row seats

and one that covers only the back portion not including 3rd row seats

Yes, the cargo cover can go from the second row to the trunk as well as third row to the trunk. It's removable and adjustable.

Right now we are using it as a 5 seater, just need the 7 when parents etc. visit. A very good 5 seater and good area in the back. Cover will work across the whole area and even without a cargo mat the cargo area very naturally works as a trunk.

I definitely wouldn't let the 3rd row scare you off. I kind of kick myself we didn't test drive the GL when we bought an ML in the past as its much more than just a longer vehicle.

Only real negative I can think of is the extra foot or so of length if garage space and parking ability compared to the ML.

Sounds good! Thanks for the advice. Was skeptical even to consider it but will definitely give it look now.

I also hardly ever use the 3rd row seats, but like the extra cargo space for tailgating, etc.

I have never used the 3rd seats in the past 5 years. I have the weather tech cargo liner in the trunk which covers the 3rd row.

And if you are really good, you can tailgate and have your two puppies along.

Nice!

We use ours with the seats down most of the time - the liner from MB works great (they had it on sale before Christmas). It's great for catching all the dog hair.

Seats up - great for when my parents are here, carting folks around wine tasting and chauferring folks to events.

Another Cargo Mat Option for Seats Down

I went with a very heavy rubber mat from Lloyds. They hold water if your into winter sports, etc. Plus, stuff does not slide around.

I got them from www.autoeverything.com

They make them for seats down or up. Since I might only use the rear seats once a year, I only bought a seats down variety. I think it was about $60 less than the price of the Weathertech. I do use the laser cut Weathertech mats in the front and 2nd row seats, they are great for the winter weather.

2014 GL350 ordered
Wish there was an option for no rear seats at all to get even more cargo room. I always have 2 golf bags & cart with me as I golf just about every other day.
