naias 2013 gls and other mbs

drove up to naias (north American international auto show)
nice selection of mbs- tesla 7seater suv is pretty awesome- delivery early next year-
diamond white gl63 on display- sweeet ride- though as known looks identical to 550 with few exterior changes- matte silver accents- exhausts are dual but each one is dual tipped so looks like 4- but i already knew that-
no gl550s on display---

e63 amg 4matic s is sweeeeeet! what a car- fantastic - 0-60 in 3.5, i think its 3.3 with 4matic..

thats interesting- i thought both versions would be available- though i would want the 4matic only- best thing for the midwest- adds a little weight but faster- daily beater and a family car-

Size wise - how did the tesla type-x line up to GL450/550 - exterior impression vs interior?

I heard Elon taking about being able to package more interior into a smaller exterior given the fundamental difference of the tesla - which I found interesting.

A friend has a Type-S - the immediate torque is incredible

exterior a lil shorter- interior has quite a bit of space- no transmission= deeper foot wells, 3rd row can easily, comfortably fit adults- good space
behind 3rd row and under hood is all cargo space-
once a year service- no gas-EVER- 300mile range with full charge most expensive battery- 1hr charge=$10, super massive display- now now its not a MB but a good contender-
front window goes single peice glass over front cabin- rear gull wing doors pretty impresssive- price 60-120k, 400 hp, 0-60 less than 5secs; theyr taking 5k refundable deposit and delivery next year- i need another gl now so that time frame doesnt work for me-
14' e63 amg def another awesome amg to get...

again trust me i'm NOT a tesla guy- takes alot for me to look away from mbs in particular but this thing is pretty sweet.

biggest disappointments- Range Rover- i used to be a Range guy in a previous
life- loved it but this new one is pretty depressing
the other disappointment - lexus- they were clearly not thinking right with new designs!

allot of the interior components in the Tesla are direct parts from MB like the gear lever, the buttons for windows and mirrors etc etc, I would like to test drive one but not too sure if its 5 grand deposit to test drive as well?

more interested in the model x, will wait till next year to test drive, 40k deposit is very steep though, the fully loaded model x will cost about the same as a GL63/Cayenne Turbo

wow 40k! they told me 5k--
yes the fully loaded is the price of a gl63 and around that of a cayenne turbo s- however it is a 7seater- cayenne doesnt have that-
the timing doesnt work for me- waiting for early next year is too long a wait for me at this time

realized the cayenne turbo s is 146k so I edited my post! the Model X signature has a 40k deposit requirement, was just on the website. I dont fell comfortable spending well over 100k for a vehicle that runs on battery, I would love to lease one though when it comes out! ( dont think you can in the U.S) available in Canada Only

man- thats nuts- 40k down- and yea over 100k for a battery- which will likely take a few hits with bumps-- thats def not worth it- thanks for that info-

$40K is only for the Signature series. My friend at work got that for the Type-S. Almost fully loaded (but not for the performance package) in a special red (signature only) color.

Think putting $5K would be the route to go (if you felt that way inclined).

Test drives are free - at least they were for the Type-S. I'm in San Jose - so somewhat convenient. Will have to check out if they have a Type-X available to drive one day.

I was thinking by the time they rolled them out with a leasing option in the US it may be in the window for my next purchase - so keeping an eye on them.

I still don't think you can lease in the US - heard that you maybe able to around / before summer?? That's the path I'd go down with this type of vehicle - those batteries sound expensive. Wonder what residuals would be?

Edit: and I think the Signature got you first delivery (except for the surprise that the Roadster owners got first dibs I hear)

no idea about residuals- honestly not sure about leasing options down the road either-
i was told for getting a longer lasting battery - it goes up by 10k increments and i think he said that battery warranty is 8 years- at which point the whole thing would kind of be done with anyway - i dont know how the quality of materials used, will last - especially in snow and extreme weathers

sticking with GL for now

by the way sls black series is a seriously amazing machine- pics do no justice.
we all know that'l last for a looooong time

warranty is 4 years 80,000 miles (which ever comes first), you also have to do service once a year from a Tesla dealer ONLY ($600) or your warranty becomes void. I'll contact the leasing people on Monday in Canada and post what they have to say about lease rates
