Systems Complexity...
I don't have my new GL as yet, so I can't speak from experience.....But I have read the manual ( some sections several times....very convoluted!) and it is increasingly clear that the electronics on this vehicle....particularly if its loaded up with all of the "driving asst. options" ..... is a very complex system! All of it....from the Distronic and ESP to the traction control and various automated braking, steering, wind gust compensation, etc. etc. has to work together and not conflict with the "good and proper" efforts of the driver to drive the car! Think about it...... cameras, radar system, yaw sensors and all the rest.... I am impressed by the tech engineers who can design all of this to function and then by the assembly guys that can bolt it all together, push it out the door and it works! Not sure there are any other vehicles quite as complex? At least we hope it works....... you guys that have your cars and the multitude of options: have you found that it works as advertised or are you having any annoyances? My present 2011 seems "simple" compared to what's coming!

There are driver dwitchable systems, then there are integrated systems - there is a whoile lot to learn/explore when your get your new truck.
One of the hardest thing for me to grasp - is that there is more features to come a year/two down the road ! (figuratively)

My thoughts as well......makes you wonder if there is an "overload" point! ( in terms of practicality for either for the system or the driver )

They are amazing machines. I find new stuff about mine all the time. I can see a day when you go to school to learn your vehicle, kind of like they have with smartphones.

A oldie-lower-tech-goodie - how many owners have set their reverse settings for the side-view miroors ? Where the side view mirrors lower to a angle where you can watch out for rear-wheel scrapes ? I bet you would be hard pressed to find a salesman that knows about that anymore..

I have the same problem in my new Gl450. I am not able to store the passenger side view mirror position where it will tilt to show the curb as soon as the reverse gear is engaged. I followed all instructions in the manual and spoke to their engineer who was surprised that a thing as simple as this would malfunction.....anybody having similar issues?.....for me it is very important to see the curb ESP on a vehicle of this size. Rear view camera does not show area immediately next to the wheel.
