We are in the heart of winter here in Minnesota. I've had my GL350 since Halloween so most of it has been with winterized diesel. I believe that impacts mileage a bit.

I think my worst tank has been a little over 22mpg. I had a trip last fall where I got about 28mpg.

I don't seem to keep how far I've went on a tank in my brain, and I typically refuel before it gets too low for condensation purposes. But I'm sure you could easily go 600 miles on a tank.

I'll be curious to see how my GL does in warmer weather with un-treated diesel in a few months.

Only have re-fueled once and didn't do the calculation yet but will check back in. I was over 500 miles still showing over 1/8th if I remember correctly. This was mostly stop/go driving in the cold. 600+ miles should be easy I would imagine but will report back when I have facts.

Being below freezing for 5 days now has really had an impact on my E diesel. Really doesn't seem to be efficient until operating temp is reached...

Over the first 950 miles mine has averaged 20.9 BUT 300 of that was pulling a 6500 lb trailer, which it did quite well. A 250 run of mixed driving just did 27.3 so I'm delighted to say the least. Just got the GL after a QX56 and I'm very happy with the change.

Over 949 miles 20.4 MPG calculated using fill up method and odometer reading. May not sound that impressive but I am actually very pleased. Of the 949 miles probably only 150-200 have been highway, the rest stop and go in the suburbs. Also many of these miles were incurred in 2 mile trips to daycare or just down the driveway to get mail or to the grocery down the street, in freezing temperatures when the engine got no where near operating temperature, which is not efficient on the diesel.

So looking forward to getting some real roadtrips in soon and will report back. Summer diesel should help as well. As a comparison, our 2009 ML BTC would dip into the high teens in similar driving conditions.

Wife made a 300 mile yesterday, mostly highway....350 showed 29.4 for that trip....next fill I'll get a good fill/calculate number and see how accurate the computer is. Very impressed!

Did a 6.5 hour run this weekend from New York City to Hershey, PA and back with wife and two kids and luggage for three women. Burned only a half tank for a 6.5 hour trip. Incredible.
I was hovering at 28mpg at 65mph no cruise control (CC) on the way there and 26.5 on the way back CC set at 65. Interesting difference with and without CC on.

Over the first 6500 miles, I'm averaging just over 23mpg. About 5000 of that is city driving. Took a 440 mile round trip to see the in-laws for Easter and averaged 28.5mpg - made it back with a little over 1/4 of a tank to spare.

Been very, very pleased with the diesel so far.

2014 GL350

From outside of Omaha to outside of Minneapolis with non-premium truck stop fuel.

(Less than 2000 miles on truck at the time, so hardly a "broken in" diesel. Average speed was low due to multiple stops for diaper changes with engine idling.)

That's very impressive. Northeast does not have flat highways so achieving super high mpg is very hard. I was happy with 27.8 with only 8,000 miles. Also running tires a little soft for comfort. Next time O will inflate to loaded spec and see if it improves.

That said I would not put the no name truck diesel in the GL in PA. Luv fuel, US gas etc.

Agreed.

I should have clarified that it was the only "branded" fuel I could find at the time (Phillips), but it wasn't the premium diesel I try to feed the 350. I was just excited to try my first tank of non-bio blend.

Even with only 3500 miles on the truck now, it's surprising how much of a difference different fuels make with engine NVH. The 350 clearly likes the "good stuff."

What do you mean when you say " city driving " ? It depends on what " city " is that. You will never get this MPG in NYC. My best was 15-16 city in my old Bluetec

Fuel economy a better term?

I typically get 23-24 mpg for a tank. I have very little stop and go traffic in my travels. I have seen 27-28 mpg on some trips with favorable conditions (weather, temp, wind, terrain, speed).

I haven't yet been able to assess the impacts of biodiesel, we're at 10% now in Minnesota.

Mileage

The mileage I get on the GL has varied from 29-26(highway driving, moderate 55-60 mph speeds) to 24-25 (higher speeds--65+, with a roof rack loaded) to 17-20 (pulling a U Haul 5 x 8 trailer that was loaded at 55+ speeds--mileage dropped in a hurry when the speed went up). Generally speaking, best mileage is moderate highway speeds without items such as roof rack, worst mileage is startup driving with a trailer. Miles per tank is something I don't try for, my credit card generally slaps a 75 to 80 dollar limit of fuel purchases, so a nearly empty tank runs into this limit.

A better term yes, but more difficult to be perfectly accurate.

350 fuel economy

Interesting question - and interesting answers. We live (by all accounts) in the middle of nowhere - ask anyone. We drive a day before we actually start our trips.

Our first few months experience has been great - we got over 1200 km per tank (over several tanks) before the indicator went on in one long haul to the US and back - and, one ethereal day's drive in the Canadian Rockies we drove a full day with the eco calculator giving us 6.5 l/100 km! wow. must have been the altitude, relative humidity or something - but, that was one spectacular day.Now at 12,500 on the clock, we're getting a solid 8.4 on average and 10.2 around town.

This thing was built for the road and given our travel plans over the next year, that's how we're going to use it. I can repost after the East Coast run.

BTB, scanning the net there is a huge, well, in a teapot, argument regarding the use of premium diesel. One camp says that its a price grab and the only difference is a few cleaners that you don't really need, another says stay away because MB doesn't recommend it, others seem to insist that its worth extra money. I've run diesels since the mid-70's - the fuel is so much better now but it seems to me that once the engine is warm, it just keeps turning and anything "premium" would just be wasted. Any collective wisdom out there?

Some of the best waterfowl hunting in the world though! I hunted in Watrous area a few years ago and can't wait to get back.

Middle of Nowhere

Well, that is true. Also world class deer hunting all around the area and if you like fishing -- well, for many species -- it just doesn't get any better. I'm a flyfisher and there are a couple of places where the grayling fishing is just outstanding. Beyond excellent.

Anyway, if you know where Skatch actually is - the Saskatoon to Fargo, ND before the fuel indicator light went on will be more impressive.

been getting 23 in mixed traffic..........i love the paddle shifters cause you can increase your MPG by upshifting faster that the automatic does.......only problem is sometimes you come to a light and it doesnt shift back into auto so when you take off you'll need to do the shifting or it will redline quick...........

I have been getting average 29-31 highway on branded 5-20% max biodiesel.
We have Propel fuels B20 and SC fuels B5-B100. My habits are mostly geared towards Hypermiling.

If really interested in good MPG stats, go to www.Fuelly.com. I post all of my fill-ups there. A great site to see real world data.
