MB now taking orders for 2014 GL

if you also check out the prev gen GL section, you might have known that I am currently looking at 7 seater SUV alternatives

https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...vs-others.html

I stopped by my local MB today and the sales rep told us that he is already taking orders for the 2014 as the allocation for the 13s are long gone. with the 2014 GLs there are a few changes... the most notable ones are

  • swapped the indicator and wiper levers on the steering wheel. apparently, many 13 owners complained
  • the middle row seats now have a button to move it instead of that pull lever in the 13
did test drive the 13 and we liked it. not used to seeing no exhaust tips i must say... especially since its one of my fav features on my c63. car definitely handles smaller than it looks. however, there really isnt alot of room behind the 3rd row for stuff. I might be able to fit our stokke stroller but that would probably be it. overall still deciding to spring the extra money to get the 14 or just get a gently used 11-12

In reference to MY14 US models:

1) stalk changes - interesting comment - I cannot confirm at this moment - and no, there have not been complaints I have seen - salesman bullsh*t about that - the other will need confirmation

2) Actually EZ-Entry has been added to the Premium 1 package - whereas MY13 EZ-Entry was a added individual option (when available) - there are mixed thoughts about this regarding lesser-ease of child seat fitting, and comfort of pre-teens with revised headrest profile - headrest NOT owner removable - do forum search

That is an interesting comment on stalk changes. I had an 07 with speed control above the signal stalk, now have a 13 with speed control below the signal stalk. Even after 5 months of ownership I catch myself hitting the turn signal instead of starting the cruise, or setting distronic as I take a corner. Old habits die hard.

I was in the same boat..... but have gotten used to the new configuration and find it actually "more comfortable" if that makes any sense! First few drives I did get them mixed up, however! The setting distronic while going into the corner can be YIKES moment, depending on how far ahead you are intending to signal your turn!

the only issues I had with the lever is that I was mistaking the turn signal for the cruise control lever, something I have gotten used to know.

How long did they say it would be before the '14 model would show up if you ordered one?

Well - the "stalk" information is mis-informed - there is NO stalk change from "13 to "14 - maybe someone got confused - as a mater of fact the "new" stalk arrangement is being implemented on more models going into 2014.

Phew, wife had a Ml430 years ago and I always hit the cruise stalk for the turn signal. All depends on what you are used to. For me this is good.

On my 2009 GL, with my hand in the 10 O'Clock position, I can operate the turn signal and cruise control without moving my hand from the steering wheel. Is the same now true with the 2013 GL? It was annoying at first but I have come to appreciate the placement.

I think it might be closer to 9 O'clock to be able to operate both now. And to set cruise/distronic you go to the lower stick on the 2013 vs the upper stick on the 2009.

I am no insider but definitely NO. Probably with the midcycle facelift in 3-4 years.

I have posted all the "changes" to MY14 GL's in a separate post.

No - MY14 availability of the "updated" COMAND will be for the S and could be limited avail (ie rolling change) for MY14 E - it has mentioned starting/launch production of the E may or may not have it...

i think irs referring to the split screen option, which personally i wouldnt be interested in, in a GL or any car with a 7" screen.. limits the view even more- i think its different on the s-class.
unless the 2nd gen GL refresh gets a bigger display which is totally possible, but i dont think that'll be for MY14, will be ~3 yrs later

I ordered my 2014 GL 550 BLACK ON BLACK LOADED and am told I will see it by end of Sept - have mid Sept build date - wanted a new GL 550 last March but was told they had sold out of 550's (only 3 months into year) and needed to wait for a 2014 - unbelievable this car sells out 3 months into the year - Anyone think MB should up their production??? I do

(btw love my 2008 GL 550 and will miss my mongo MB emblem (the largest ever put on non-commercial MB))

Hope u get it sooner! I am on the East cost and would to see if u recommend the dealer and SA u dealt with. I am in Boston but got mine three years ago from RI.
Not sure I will go with the same dealer but will give them the first chance.
Also, did u lease or buy, I am looking into leasing for 36 months.
Thanks,

got IT

Took delivery of new 14 GL 550 baby this week...
My intial impression is that it's bigger than my last GL 550 - higher front grill and hood/ longer (actually has usuable space behind 3rd row now) and fatter (seems like it fills the road more than usual and I have to work to keep it within lane aka white lines)
But all of the above is a good thing - trucks should be fatter and more massive than cars
Truck also drives rock solid - seems like it's planted firmly to road and I'm at the helm of a new spanking jetliner with all the trimmings
Ohh can't help but menton the 21" AMG rims are beautiful as well and open enough to show brakes behind which I think gives a nice sporty look
Lastly interior is beautiful (my car is black on black again) and rear tv screens seem better quality than last GL 550 I had (almost seem flat screens and look more hi tech) - if want rear dvd would go with the factory installed instead of after-thought dealer stuff
Gonna be fun to drive this one for sure
First family trip this weekend !!!
