Be Careful!!!

If you have the soft close doors.....do not leave the end of your thumb between the door edge and the door jam I did.... the smash against the door jam was painful but the attempt by the door closure to complete the process made it WORSE! Thinking about small child fingers...... Back to the ice pack.......and a visit with Dr. Jack Daniels!

so it doesn't stop the door closing if it senses an obstruction???

good to know, i'll have to make sure my boys are really careful around them. they've been fascinated by the soft close so far and purposely shut the door lightly and see it suck it self back in. my 5 year old especially likes it because now he can close the door from inside also. before it was still ajar and i'd have to do it for him.

the problem is now they think EVERY car has (or should have) soft close and wait to watch it happen

It MAY stop if it senses an obstruction BUT but by the time is senses the obstruction such as the soft tip of an adult thumb....it has already attempted to close and added to the injury! I think in a "non-soft close" scenario it would have smashed my thumb and rebounded slightly .... in this case it tried to secure the door before it gave up. The reason for the whole thing, however, was my own failure to watch what I was doing!!

Thanks for the heads up. I removed this special order item based on this info as I have 2 young toddlers. Was a tough decision because the soft close door feature is such a nice touch to the luxury feel of the car. Also removed the power easy entry feature after reading about headrest problems on this forum. Oh well. Safety first.

Help me to understand what the problem is here? Who leaves their thumb in the door jab while a door is being closed?

i don't think anyone does it on purpose of course. but stuff happens every now and then. my 5 year old was getting out of our lexus and had his hand on the outside of the pillar between the front and back doors and i was walking away from the front door with a bunch of stuff and actually closed the door on half his hand and the door ACTUALLY CLOSED ALL THE WAY if you can believe it. of course he started screaming and i freaked out and opened the door and there were lines on his fingers

thankfully the lexus doors are small and fairly light and have a lot of weather stripping for noise reduction so he was fine. but it scared the crap out of me. now i just don't close the doors until they are well outside of the car.

we haven't had any issues w/ them using the soft close doors because i tell them to keep their hands away from the door jambs at all times and they push on the center of the door to close it. and if it doesn't catch, the soft close will bring it in
