Power easy entry fixed headrests with child seats installed
here are some pictures of our child seats installed with the power easy entry fixed headrests. the backs of the seats have to be tucked in and under the headrest, while the side impact protection head restraints have to be in front of the headrest.
these are two Britax Boulevard 70's front facing convertible car seats.
the 2nd row seats are in their full "recline" tilt back position. it takes some fiddling to get in, but it works and the seats are secure. i would of course prefer to remove the headrests, but it is what it is for now...

Thanks for the posting! Currently I have a Boulevard in the 3rd row (fits perfectly withouth the headrest) but will probably have 2 in the 2nd row soon. When I had mine in the 2nd row was similar setup to yours and seemed really secure. I am really bad about remembering to take pictures...

no problem.
i was initially worried about it, seeing as though the headrest pushes the SIP wings out a little bit, but after tilting the 2nd row seat back all the way, the head position seems more natural. and the ultimate test has already been passed by both boys - no problems falling asleep in their seats!
i do wonder, however, if you don't have the SIP wings, would the child's head be hitting the headrest and is that comfortable? my 3 year old doesn't quite reach the headrest yet, but my 5 year old does. i'm lucky it worked out for now and i don't have to make a special request to break the clamps.
when the in laws visit we move the child seats to the third row, and we will be able to use the power easy entry to get them in and out quickly. i like that the new 2013's you can get in from either side, not just the passenger side. but the 60% side is very very large and heavy and i doubt my mother in law could put it back into place and get the headrest up again. i wish there was a button to return it to its previous position, but i suppose given the weight and size of those seats , safety is going to be an issue.

Wamochi, Are you eluding that those headrest are not removable? Is that because of an option your car has or is it standard to all 166 GLs?

If you don't have the power easy entry, you can still remove the headrests just like the previous X164's.
The power easy entry is going to be packaged with P1 on the new 2014 X166 rather than a paid standalone option.
Another member on this forum actually had the dealer remove them by removing the clamps that prevent them from going out of their holes. I believe you can still use them but they will no longer auto retract when you use power easy entry function. Here is that thread : https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...eadrest-2.html
I ended up getting a 550 that had the option and I'm getting used to seeing those headrests in my rear view mirror. Thankfully they are Smaller than the X164's mammoth headrests but of course if I could remove them that would be preferable since my kids are in the second row 350 days out of the year!
