Park Assist

Anyone play with their new Park Assist? I think it's a hoot!

I had seen this video after I got my GL and I couldn't get it to work this past weekend when I was parallel parking in la jolla. I drove up to a space, visually determined on my own that it was going to be a tight spot, and when I hit reverse nothing happened. So I parked it myself with the help of the cameras.

I don't know what I did or didn't do correctly, but it never prompted me to park itself! However, both times I parallel parked I was within 8-12 " to spare on both sides which is pretty tight. Maybe the car deemed the space too small? I was able to park it though very carefully on my own.

It was a bummer too because I rarely get to parallel park anywhere in San Diego and then I was excited to try it and no one was around waiting for me and it just wouldn't work

The [P] appears in the instrument display to show the system is active. The system automatically looks for a parking space on the right, but will only look on the left if the indicator to the left is active (opposite for right drive cars).

The system has not checked the parking place until the arrow appears next to the [P]> . You have to go a short distance past the parking place until the arrow appears. If the arrow does not appear at all the car thinks there is something wrong with the parking place.

No arrow? Then no park assist.

Once the arrow appears you can select reverse and it should ask if you wish to activate park assist. If you say yes then hands off the wheel or it will turn off.

At least on mine, it is quite random that it deems a space appropriate. In some ways, you end up looking down too much to see if the little arrow comes on. Could be dangerous. I have only gotten it to work twice in 9 months. I believe I had about a dozen or more opportunities, but I generally end up using the distance sensors and the right mirror which drops down to show the curb. The right mirror is the key to success. :-)

I've used it several times and find it very accurate. ogre is correct though, if you do not see the arrow pointing right (P>) you will not be prompted to park using the assist. If a spot is quite large, park assist will also be disabled.

My thoughts excactly! It may be of use to someone, but for me..... I can do as good a job and faster! Waiting for the system to dtermine an appropriate spot and then carefully monitoring it as it completes the process is app to **** off folks behind you! The 360 cam system, however, was worth the cost of the package!

you guys are absolutely right - the 360 cam is an amazing tool and makes parallel parking so easy. i really only parallel park 10x a year, but i'm decent at it and was able to squeeze the GL into a very tight spot ... twice

the conditions were perfect though - no one behind me in a narrow residential street and a small space, so i thought i can take all the time i need to figure this out. i think maybe it was just too small for the cameras to say "OK, let's do this". i kept creeping forward hoping for something but it never had the arrow. i'll have to try again sometime when there is more space i guess
