Source for Running Boards?

My GL450 is not coming with factory installed running boards and as it turns out my wife would prefer them. I've contacted my dealer for their price but was wondering if anyone knew of any other sources? Unless they have significantly changed in complexity with the new generation, I will probably install them myself. Thanks in advance.

A gaggle of MB's
Dealer installed running boards are not available for the 2014 GL - the good news as compared to the earlier generation GL is that for 2nd row door entry the new gen is easier for in/out

I just had my passenger side running board replaced due to a defect, I have been told in Canada at least you can order them but costs around $1200.

Update from my dealer:

MY14 running board kits are not currently available but according to their parts contact at MB, they will be coming. No firm ETA. They said they would be able to order the running boards piece meal but the combined price will be roughly 2x the cost of the kit.

Well that dealer is telling you what you want to hear - dealer installed running boards were not available for the GL since original MY13 delivery a year ago.. dealer installed running boards are available for the ML - and yes, installed price runs $1200 for parts and 4 shop hrs labor.

I believe the issue is how the running boards are factory fastened - and that it is not possible to fasten production running boards the same way - you would not believe the problems this has caused with GL customer's that "change their mind".

Ended up being too much of a pain. They were able to find another vehicle with the boards already installed so I went that route.

On another note, I was able to find some China-sourced boards that supposedly work for the MY14 that also feature illumination. Obviously, who knows if those are even a viable option.

In short, the lesson is if you want them, better get them from the factory for now.

it will always cost more to get factory options after delivery no matter the car brand, sometimes even impossible. I was quoted $16,000 for wheels and tires by MB which I paid $2900 for as part of the sport package which included the AMG Kit, running boards etc etc. it would have cost a fortune to get these things afterwards.

GL running boards will not be offered as a kit. You have to buy all the parts seperate. They are avalible right now just checked yesterday. But they are in the 2500-3000 range if I remeber correctly.
