Can someone with a dealer installed rear entertainment post their picture?

I just recently got my rear entertainment system installed and got this model.

When I had original thought it would come out like this.

Anyone else got the top model from a dealer install?

The top model looks like dealer install whereas the bottom model looks like factory install. Notice the back of the headrest on the bottom model is different than what is delivered without the dealer installed screens.

Yes the bottom one is the factory installed. However I had thought that you can get one similar to the factory installed at the dealer if your car is pre-wired.

The dealer installed rear entertainment system is the one that you had installed - so you know the good thing about it is both sides has DVD slot...

Did a little bit of research as well as called another dealer to confirm. I was informed that the one that was installed in mine is part of Mercedes accessories and can be used on multiple vehicles. Dealers can also install the same one as the factory add-on if they order the right one.

If anyone else has a dealer installed rear entertainment that looks like the factory please share your pictures.

The bad part about the one that was installed in mind is that you have to use the headset for sound and you can't control it from the front. This basically renders the pre-wire useless. Additionally since this will be mainly used for my son who is two it's not practical.

the top is dealer install as mentioned by many-- yes sounds through the car system is not possible and from what i know you cannot play the same dvd simultaneously..
as for dvd slots, yes you get individual slots--
and be careful when putting down the seat, if you dont have easy access, the head rest will hit the screens...

i dont think any dealer install will look like factory install- there is an advantage if you got the removable screens as they can be dismounted and played anywhere

I've got a dealer-installed RSE with factory set-up and accessories (2nd picture). The DVD AUX drive is located at the center console.

You can always use the COMAND DVD player and activate rear A/V so that the sound goes to the loudspeaker instead of headsets.

reddcer would you mind telling me how much you were charged? Or PM me.

That's the thing with the system that was installed in mine is that it's not connected to the front DVD player. The rears are independent. I'm currently having the dealer install the correct one or remove it so I can go to another dealer that can do it.

Close to $2K, I think. I know for a fact that the dealer-installed RSE (1st pic) is significantly less expensive than that of the factory-installed RSE. I was actually offered an aftermarket (non-MB) RSE which is similar to the 1st pic but I declined.

Does your current DVD system have a DVD AUX drive?

The dealer installed ones look horrible. Not to mention, they are in a precarious place. When you fold the seats, the headrests will slam into them if you don't have the headrests all the way down. Those would have broken those multiple times if they were installed in my GL from people folding the seats and carring large items. No way would I accept that set-up.

I agree, the system that was installed looked like an after thought and I'm really upset at my dealer for even installing it when I had originally wanted the factory one installed. Regardless my salesman is trying to resolve the issue with the parts manager. If that doesn't work I'm going have them uninstall it and have it done at another dealer. Not only that they'll no longer have my business.

Thanks, that's how much I paid my dealer to install mine as well.

The system they gave me does have an Aux input.

BTW, did you have the pre-wiring for the RSE? You see a "dealer-installed" RSE (1st pic) does not require a pre-wiring.

Yes mine is pre-wired.

Yes I'm aware the first kit does not require any pre-wiring because its a part of the Mercedes Accessories and doesn't tie into the Comand system.

I don't get it. In order to have a factory-installed RSE (2nd pic), the vehicle must be pre-wired hence the COMAND-controlled rear A/V. There must have been a miscommunication between you and the dealer as to what should have been installed since you have already had your vehicle pre-wired. Also the factory-installed RSE has both a "common" DISC AUX DRIVE (in the center console) and an independent AUX DISPLAY INPUT for each rear monitors. Looking at this dealer-installed RSE, your system might not have an AUX DISPLAY INPUT at the rear monitors.

I'm going to give them the benefit that they ordered the wrong kit and will correct the error. Still waiting to hear back from our sales rep.

The rear monitors that were installed on mine does have Aux inputs if you want to hook up a gaming console. However it does not allow you to control it from the COMAND console nor allow the monitors to utilize the car's speakers. You're forced to use the headsets they provide with the system, since this will be mainly used to entertain our two year old it's not practical.

OK but do you have the DVD AUX drive behind the center console?

Nope, that was my complaint was that they installed the completely wrong unit.

Had they ordered the right one it could have came with a DVD drive and two monitors.

The one that was installed in mine came with two monitors that have their own built-in DVD players. Meaning each monitor can play it's own DVD and cannot link with the DVD player in the COMAND.

Called another dealer today and was told that the one that was installed was meant for non prewired vehicles or a cheaper alternative to the factory ones. The one I should have gotten for my vehicle should have looked like the factory one.

RSE

Invoice- $1,814
MSRP - $1,950

Dual 8" LCD screens that can be operated independently from each other, mounted to the back of the front seat headrests; 2 wireless headsets; 2 remote controls; Single disc DVD player underneath the rear seats; Auxiliary inputs

If you've paid them accordingly for the "factory-look" RSE then you should have those features, set-up and accessories as described above.

Thanks reddcer.
