Check the online 2013 GL PDF manual at mbusa. Pre-Safe is one system (pg 54) standard on all GLs, Pre-Safe Brake is something else (pg 75) which the manual says is only included on vehicles w/ distronic.

not true - we have 2 new, 2013 GLs, a fully loaded 450 and a 550- both did not get distronic because not interested- both have presafe brake as standard- trust me its been verified-
and pre-safe brake is simply amazing- you have to experience to know it- the way the seats and settings adjust instantaniously and all windows close- scary at first but a great feature MB has introduced

Yes, those features you mention are part of the basic Pre-Safe (pg 56 of the PDF manual I mentioned) and BAS (brake assist) (pg 69 of the PDF manual). Pre-Safe Brake and BAS Plus are something on top of that, and require distronic as described in the manual.

aaah -- i see what you'r saying now-- however distronic 'plus' is the new feature for 14s' with the additional difference being that brakes are applied automatically 'without' even one pressing on them.. 13s do not have distronic plus from what i know, just distronic.. otherwise all other presafe features are identical..

I ordered the Lane & Parking packages, but ended up adding Driver Assist/Distronic at the last minute. Didn't know if I'd use it much, but didn't want to regret it later. Thanks for the feedback.

I have the '14 without distronic and my brakes got applied for me yesterday along with a loud beep. I need to read up to see which feature "took over" for me as I was merging on the highway and very much in charge of what I wanted to be doing. It was a bit disconcerting.

Was your foot on the brake at the time?

[QUOTE=Cz7;5772306]Thanks, everyone, for your input and suggestions! I decided to add both the appearance package and the lighting package. I'm also getting the Parking Assist and Lane/Blind Spot assist but not the Distronic/Drive Assist which was an extra $2000.

Those are exactly the options I got and also did not get the distronic. I am very happy with every one of those. The appearance and lighting pkgs are great. The 20s look great and the ride is the same as the 19s (IMO), i've driven both. The park assist sounds silly but it is cool as hell and the lane/blind spot assist is very helpful. You will be happy.

Glad to hear you like both the appearance and lighting packages. I did end up adding Driver Assist (Distronic) at the very last minute. Some people say they never use it, and others say they love it so I was on the fence. Excited to get the vehicle in November.
