my14 gl350 squeaky doors?

Squeaky may not be the right word, but I can think of a better one... over anything less than smooth roads, the doors on my new gl seem to squeak. think of the sounds made by the top on a Styrofoam cooler, but not as high pitched.

it only has 450 miles on it, so i attribute it to growing pains... has anyone else had this issue? its rather annoying but seems like a pretty easy issue. maybe some lube on the weatherstripping around the doors?

Thanks!

please let me know if you figure it out. on mine, i believe it is something to do with the doors because if i open the door the noise goes away.

Unhappy

I had this problem as well and posted about it. It's very annoying. After spending a month collectively in the shop out of the first 5 months I owned it, the Chicago mercedes service department seems to have fixed it. It was a special lubrication they had to use and a special way to treat it. They did it the first time and didn't do the application properly but the second time they did and it seems to have worked. They indicated they would be preemptively doing it to all new GLs as well. I would have your service coordinator reach out to the service manager at the Chicago MB service center.

thats what my service manager said as well- he was concerned if they might not have been lubricated to begin with- in any case he did mine and the sound seemed a little better but still present- i'l have to let him know about what they did for your vehicle and reapply that special lubricant and see what happens..

i ordered some felt tape with the intention of lining the inside of the door opening where the weather stripping of the door meets the painted metal of the car. this may be the location of source of the squeaking.

i will report back...

Why would you order tape/felt for a 2013/2014 GL ? "Moises" like that would be n/c door adjustment by the dealer under warranty...

Because I'm curious. Once I isolate the issue, I'll make the dealer fix it.

First - treat door seals with Gummi Pflege - if it is the seals that will take care of any issue - do the google and yes I have spelled that correctly.

Second - if it is not a case of contaminated door seal - then the door needs to be realigned - I am spoiled since my team has direct access to a Mercedes Certified Collision Center - and 90%+ other MB dealers don't.

bring this back from the dead.

GL now has ~25,000 miles on it and the doors STILL squeak. Its been in the shop at least a dozen times and had all seals replaced. for a day or two after the work is performed its quiet but the squeaks come back.

Twice they've given me a GL loaner and they are both as silent as a vault.

So frustrating. Other than the squeaky doors, i LOVE tit.

Anyone have anything to add before I get rid of it?

2024 GLS 580. Formerly 2015 GL 550, 2003 S430.
My 2015 GL550 had this. I treated the rubber seals around the doors, as well as the door lock latch, with a LIGHT coating of DuPont Krytox GPL 205 Grease. A tube cost me $14.99 on Amazon.

It hasn't been squeaking since! Give it a shot - it's worth a try.

I solved this problem using felt tape so don't have to keep lubing.
Most of the noise are when the chassis flexes.

Felt tape the rubber that the door panel sit on. Remove door panel and the wood trim door handle and felt tape all contact point.
If you have sunshade, it's also part of the problem. Felt tape the plastic to rubber contact.
Felt tape the underneath of the plastic that run around the window.

Buy the Honda ept felt tape (3t) they are $30-40 for 4 foot worth. I used about four foot per door.

BMW also sells the felt tape, you can get it at the service department. My GL550 is silent, it's perfect. I did though have a 2010 Land Rover LR4 HSE and the dash was a rattle and squeak box just a few weeks after picking her up brand new. It was so bad that I had no other choice but to dismantle it and felt tape every joint. It helped about 80% but there were still lingerers that I could not isolate. Anyway, the felt tape does work wonders. Oh, another note, my 2013 RRS HSE Lux also had a nasty dash rattle just 100 miles into ownership. Rather than tackle or chase it down, I took the advice from an old-timer that said, let the car settle in! And low-and-behold after a few thousand miles the truck somehow mellowed out on its owned and was completely Bentley quiet throughout the ownership. I've used this rule since... rather than let my mind get the best of me.

Felt tape also take time to cure and settle in.
Those hard to fix issue I also felt tape all the wiring and screw holes so simply screw it right through and also felt all metal clips.

Like I've said, the noise resonate so it may be something a foot away.

I used 100 foot of felt for the entire interior.. If people thought their GL was quiet, 100 foot of felt make wonder, hear nothing but tire and engine now, even through San Francisco roads. No more ticks from plastic due to changes in temperature as well.

SF city streets are the worst - although getting better. Out here, in the Richmond District there's some really crappy pavement.

Man, your GL63 must be as quiet as a Rolls Royce inside!
