2011 Mercedes GL350 bluetec
GL350 Bluetec
I recently purchased a 2011 MB GL350 Bluetec. Been driving it for a little over a week, handles great and very fuel efficient especially on the freeway. Noticed recently on a drive home from Santa Barbara, CA to Fremont in Northern CA that the car is really struggling with acceleration. For example when getting on the freeway, my husband had it floored and it was slow to pick up, it took almost 30 seconds to get from zero to 60 mph. I know the diesel GL is slower to pick up compared the gas V8 but it should only take about 9 seconds to accelerate from zero to 60mph, not three times the amount of time. It was so sluggish we were afraid we could get hit from behind trying to merge onto the freeway. We also noticed it was slow going uphill, had it floored and it could barely get to 55 while going uphill. It was definitely not having these acceleration issues on our drive to Santa Barbara just three days prior. Anyone else have this issue with their GL350? What would cause this problem?

My former 07 320 performed like that for awhile which was due to a plugged fuel filter. They need to be changed every 20000 miles without a doubt.

I'd bet it is the transmission sticking in a high gear. Very common problem with the 7 speed transmission. There is a speed sensor in the transmission that has a very high failure rate. If I remembered correctly, the repair is around $1k.
