I can only speak for MY 2013…..but….for that year the on/off package was a regular option and I have it on mine. The trailer mode is only available on the on/off package….and the package itself is ( or at least was ) not available on the 350. As to the specifics of what the trailer mode does….. I do not know…but I will check out the manual and get back!

On mine, the trailer mode engages when the trailer lights are hooked up. It senses if the trailer is wagging the car and engages the appropriate individual car brake to get and keep the trailer in line. There might be a few other bells that I'm not aware of too.

With 350 without ORP will I still get the trailer mode ? I assume that GL 63 dose not have ORP also right Trimmer2 ? How do you select trailer mode with out that knob ?

With non ORP, the sport/comfort changes the firmness setting of the suspension……with the ORP, the same button changes not only the suspension but makes changes to the shift points and throttle response. When I select "sport" my GL450 responds to my request to "GO" with amazing results……. it is because of this and the trailer and "snow" programs that they called the package "ON and OFF" road package. Previous generation GL it was called an "off road" package because it only provided additional off road capabilities.

The ORP comes with locking diffs and other bits and pieces that makes the vehicle more setup for actual off road use. This is mostly for the overseas market. People in the UK order diesels and ORP...

I'm pretty sure that this would not be available on the GL63. The transmission in the 63 is locked in a 40/60 split whereas the other vehicles are variable beyond that.... Plus I am not sure the ORP can take the beating that the AMG could put on it... (AMG vehicles other than the G wagon just got 4matic last year...so clearly it had been an issue until recently).

Btw.. I have the towing package but the tongue weight is not as high on the GL63 as it is on the other vehicles and I believe I'm down 500lbs towing weight.

I just plug in the trailer lights and it's automatic. I believe most higher end SUV's do the same.

So, is this the ONLY AMG that you can order a tow package? I don't recall seeing a receiver on other AMG cars
