Have this recurring vexing error message "outside right side mirror error". Here are the symptoms:

1. Outside temperature has fallen to the 40's.
2. Car in garage starts with no error on mirror.
3. After turning off engine and parking outside, on restart the error warning comes on.
4. So it seems to be intermittent.
5. Not sure that I can relate it to the temperature.

Any guidance or assistance would be appreciated. The LED light strip is about $50 at the dealer. Does anybody know the part number and have step by step details on how to replace it? I believe that the mirror is attached with clips. Really cautious about doing this because the mirror is about $800 and don't want to break anything. Thanks

Thanks for the response. It is a 2009 GL450. It was parked in the garage last night (unheated garage, temperature in garage about 35 degrees) and started this morning with no error message. It is parked outside right now and I am going to guess that when I restart it the error message will appear.

I did go out and restart the car after lunch, approximately 4.5 hours off. The right side view mirror error message appeared. I drove it and the arrow indicator on the dash was clicking twice as fast as the left. Turned engine off restarted, error message returned. Turned engin off and restarted and the error message was gone!

You have a X164 GL (Model years 2007-2012). This is the X166 forum (Model years 2013-present). You might want to try posting to the X164 forum to see if anyone else has encountered this, you might get an answer here, but less likely.
