What is the best way to turn off the Audio?

What is the best way to turn off the Audio?
I can simply press MUTE but it will not off the audio. Or I can press “Switches COMAND on/off Adjusts the volume” That will off the Audio but it will switch off display too. Does anyone know a better way

Nobody replied to your question, which was one I asked a while back.
The short answer is that you know everything already.
At least the mute function remains through a switch off/on of the car - in Audi cars the radio comes back alive again it's really annoying!
One tactic is to switch to a source that has no media, but I think the mute is better

When I mute my radio and turn off my GL550 the mute is disabled the next time I start the car and the sound is back. In other words, it works exactly like your Audi.

Hmm, just been and tried mine again, on Radio push mute on Steering wheel, mute symbol appears on screen, switch off, get out, lock, then get back in and start again, mute symbol still there and no sound.
Maybe US models are different to UK, but that used to drive me nuts in the Audi.
