Illuminated Star
I just purchased a 2014 Gl450 in Diamond White, it has 2000 miles on it. So far we really like it, it rides much better than our 2007. Our 2014 has the illuminated star option which I was excited about, until I tried it out to only find it's not on when you're driving. It's only on when you unlock the car. This seems pretty pricey just to have it on for 10 seconds. I don't see anywhere to change this option, is this really how it works?

The DOT has not approved for use as a "running light" for the SUV's "yet" - they "might" approve when submitted with new 2015 MY - and if they approve for 2015 then Star will be able to be recoded by dealer for prior years.

This is a frustrating feature that was misrepresented by MB (commercials showed car with it on while driving)...not a big deal, but hopefully will be fixed soon.

I wired it my self. All you have to do is grab power from one of your lights that are always on like a bumper marker lamp. Very easy to do and it makes the lighted star actually worth having!

Dealer programmable, or re-programmable - haven't had it done yet - the Star isn't "big" in my market area at all - will be "bigger" this next model year..

sorry for the bad pics. took them quickly in the garage but you can see the star illuminated when the lights are on. Picked up from dealer 2 days ago.

Was at the MB dealer today for unrelated issue but asked the MB Botique lady what it costs - $795 installed. On whenever the headlights come on. I'll wait for a "deal".

My wife's is on whenever the lights are on. Picked it up a few weeks ago. I'm not sure why they would charge you for a software update to do this. You could almost claim it is warranty work in some ways.

Should have clarified - that is for the entire kit plus installation for those of us that did not have the option at the time but want to add it now.

Dealer said no full time illumination approved for ML350 yet
Just to add my two cents, I have a 2014 ML350 BlueTec I recently purchased.
It did not come with the illuminated star so I inquired as to installing it. I was informed that currently, it has not been approved to stay on but is still only when the doors are unlocked or the door is open. They also quoted the total cost of around $1,200.00 (star and three wiring modules to make it only operate when doors are unlocked). Half of the cost was the hardware and the other half the labor to install the new modules. The Rep. I talked to told me to wait till later in the year and it might be approved for full time on and the extra modules would may not be needed so the parts cost and installation cost should drop.

Installation Instruction
Hello Guys,
I bought the OEM part from MB dealer. I could able to mount the star my self.
The toughest part is where to hook it up on the fuse circuit. Can any one post detail instructions where to hook up the wire and what fuse to use I Guess is fuse came with the parts is 5 AMP.
Here is the link where I bought. Seller is a Open road MB in New Jersey.
