Ipad integration question
Was looking at a GL that had the Ipad mounts integrated into the headrest. there is a USB charging port and the SA said that you could play the DVD's from the COMAND head unit over the attached ipads. I questioned him since that didn't sound right, but he said yes.
Can anyone verify this? It does have the rear entertainment pre-wiring.

The MB "integrated" iPad mount does provide charging - and takes that power lead from the "pre-wiring" - on the flip side that mount cannot be removed since a hole has been punched thru the seat upholstery for the mount and lead. No - there are no audio or video connections between the rear integrated mount and the front COMAND system - that audio/video connect to COMAND at this time can only be utilized with the factory-equivalent-rear-DVD-units - another kettle of fish since that rear-factory DVD can be installed by the dealer but also requires change out of rear headrest - dealer installed looking at $3K+ as compared to $1600 factory installed and NOT the Mercedes "accessory" rear DVD units which do not have integration with front COMAND either.
On same subject - the MB "clip-on" iPad mounts are 1st class - charge from 12V port with a loose cable - and come with MB 2yr accessory warranty as compared to "most" lower price mounts where the "most" cheaper mounts from aftermarket seem to give up the ghost every 60-90 days.
Summary: pre-wiring is low cost - but really very/very/very limited usefulness - with iPads you are also limited on what can and cannot be done by Apple/Cuppertino's design intention
