2015 GL350 order

Hi.

I'm ready to order my 2015 GL350.
Built the car with following :

Ext Color : Black
19-inch wheels
Int color : Grey MB-Tex, Anthracite Poplar Wood
Lighting Package, Running Boards, Heated Steering Wheel, P1 package,
HK Sound, Keyless-Go, Rear Seat Entertainment system pre-wiring,
Lane tracking package, PArking Assist Package,Trailer Hitch.

Total MSRP : $74,485

I really like 2 tone interior ( grey with black), but don't see this option on MBUSA. Does anybody know if it's available with MB-Tex and what is the code to get it.
Also - In case I want to install Rear DVD system in the future (aftermarket) - do I really need to order Rear Seat Entertainment system pre-wiring ?

Thanks for your help.

Time to upgrade to 2013?

I've never heard of the 2 tone option on grey MBTEX, but I'm sure Fab will know if there's a special order option.

I think the pre-wiring is good if you intend to spend the big bucks for the MB aftermarket DVD system. For anything else I don't think people use it. Most are installing tablet brackets and using tablets. Given their battery life the charging isn't a big issue, especially when combined with that fact that most will take the table with them instead of leaving them permanent in the vehicle.

If you have small kids then order your GL with the RES. My X164 did not have it and I tried to convince myself that I was better off without it. My X166 now does and I think it is worth every penny. If I had older children (that could manage their own content) I would just give them an IPad and some headphones. With the RES, you can listen to the radio while your kids watch one or two separate movies with the sound source selected via a switch on the Mercedes Bluetooth headphones.

No - "two tone" interiors is not a available option - although some digital photos can "look" like 2-tone.

On "pre-wiring" - which is small added cost option - ONLY helps if you decide later to add MB "factory" rear entertainment system - then the pre-wiring allows the front/main COMAND unit to act both as a source, and allow the rear DVD's to play over main system - however MUCH/MUCH more cost effective to add rear entertianment system from the factory that adding this as dealer installed system later.

Rear-entertainment systems - whether MB accessory system or aftermarket system will be "independent" so-to-speak - and not be able to use front COMAND as a source and/or use main sound system for playback regardless of pre-wiring or not.

Keep the beat !

My 2013 lease is coming to the end in January, so now it's a good time to order
All this time I've been missing diesel power, so no way I will buy another gasoline GL.
I have Rear DVD in my current car, but the only time I use it - when we drive to Florida. My son connects Playstation to it and plays all way long. I never used it to watch movies. I'm planning to install something that he can connect his PS3 and leave me along. Need to do additional research what can be installed to accomplish it )
I think I saw 2 tone interior on a picture, but not sure if it's still available.

Thank you Fab.
So in my situation I don't need it.

Don't let me hold you back - at/under $2K as factory option factory rear seat entertainment as "backup" can be a safe play.

That said - this might make a OK gift for your gamer - he does have 110AC under 2nd row seat.

No jokes. I actually preffer deisel engine torque compared to gasoline power. It's not a sports car

2014 gl350
Just picked up a 2014 gl350 last week and like it quite a bit. It's my wifes vehicle so i don't drive it a ton but really like the diesel. We've had 2 gl450's before it and i see no reason to have a gas burner again. We have B5 diesel here so no problems with that. I do like the 19" wheels on the 350 as opposed to the miserable 20" run flats on the 450's we had. I actually looked forward to putting the 18" winter wheels with snows on so the truck rode nicer. The other nice feature is the power 2nd row. It's especially nice for my kids.

I also hate Run Flats, but deisel GL doesn not have Run Flats anymore with any wheel size.

Just out of curiosity, what is it that you liked more about the torque in your X164 diesel than you do in your X166 gas? I've owned both too. Loved the diesel and will consider getting another one in the future. I repeat, I loved the diesel so please don't shoot flaming arrows. I just got tired of feeling like I was going to get rear ended every time I pulled out into traffic, which unfortunately I had to do quite often. I liked nothing about its torque from a stop and liked the torque at all other times but frankly, the X166 450 produces more torque at lower rpm's and over a broader range than the X164 did. Plus, and this is a huge plus, the X166 450 produces the torque immediately relative to a diesel.

I totally agree with you, but I think my style of driving is different than yours. I never want to rush from the start when I'm in GL. It's not that I'm old and don't wanna go fast, but to me GL like a big boat for cruising to Florida or something. If I need to go fast - I drive Lexus IS, which I got couple weeks ago or take my kids MB C-300. Opposite to me is my wife, which primarily drives GL. It doesn't matter it's a gasser or diesel - she just steps on the gas hard and the car flies right from the start
And I love 2 tanks of gas to Miami . My last trip to Florida on 450 - it seemed like I stopped on all Gas Stations along the way .
On top of that - just recently I got a loaner ML 350 Bluetec and was very surprise how powerful this car is compared to old diesel engine. It was no way slower than my 450.
Good Luck to you ....

Have you thought about having your '13 450 checked out? Perhaps you have 2-3 cylinders not firing. (Seriously, I'm not trying to be smart or funny) If you are missing power at any speed in your X166 450 compared to your X164 Bluetec you have some sort of serious mechanical problem. Car and Driver has the X164 350 timed going 0-60 in 8.6 seconds. (faster than Mercedes' estimate) That's slow for any vehicle over $30,000. They recently have the X166 450 timed at 5.8 seconds in their long term test. That's 48% longer for the X164 diesel to get to 60 than the X166 450!! Having owned both, there is absolutely no speed or situation where the X166 450 lacks power over my X164 Bluetec. Not even close. And...you don't have to drive it like a sports car to figure that out. In fact, you barely have to press the throttle to keep up with traffic. Different story in the X164 Bluetec. Fuel economy is a whole different ball game but that's not what we are talking about here.

I originally was interested in a GL350. Test drove both and ended up with a 450 bc I felt like a had a lot more power.

Had 2 x164 gl450's and now have the x166 gl350. I don't feel that the vehicle is in any way underpowered quite honestly. It's my wifes primary vehicle and she loves it. It's a heavy SUV and not a sports car. I drive a tuned Audi S6 with about 550hp so have a different perception of what's quick. :-)

Please condier adding:

1) MB wrapped lower dash and upper dor panels : $300
2) Heated washer reservoir $105
3) lock on rear cargo florr cmpartment $150
4) since you hv heated wheel, 2nd row heated $620

Makes do real diff what "invoice" is at - be more concerned about confirmed production availability - which it even more short than last Fall - you want to make sure you have both the factory PO # and the factory scheduled production date in return for your deposit.

On GL550's and GL350's it's going to get but ugly on delivery if people wait another 3-4 weeks to shop/decide.

Fab - as always thanks for advice.
These are probably good options, but I will skip them. Don't need it and trying to be on a budget
I'm asking about invoice price, because that is the price I'm getting my car for. Dealer says it's about 6% off MSRP. Ive always thought it's 7%.

Sorry I'm in the wrong section of forum, bun just like to browse. I own 2 x164 1350 and the other 450. The 350 is by far superior. Once you step on it and turbo kicks in it takes off. The mpg is amazing and will only upgrade to a 166 350. Did have oil cooler leaks and air bag issues on both just wanted to see how the 166 community was doing. I know it may be a bit too early to know.

On #1 + #2 - get them both - you'll thank me for that - invoice depends are who the dealer is and how you look at it - 7% and 6% are both acurate/type answers in their own way ....
