I just had my 2014 GL550 in for a 10K service and they said there was no such update for my specific SUV. The update must not include all models.

I had the same experience. They said that mine already had the most recent software. Since mine is 2013 GL with surround camera, maybe these updates are for others. It's a mystery.

'14 GL550, '14 BMW 650iX GC MSE
Mine is a 2014 GL550 with a January 2014 build date. Prior to the update, my surround view backup camera was basically a black screen at night. When I went in for service I gave them the specific service bulletin number (LI54.65-P-059114) from the other thread. The SA said he hadn't heard of this issue before, but at my insistence would go ahead and have the techs follow the instructions in the bulletin. After the update, the camera works great as I noted in the other thread.

Your dealer is mistaken. I had the update done on my 14 GL550 last month, it makes an incredible difference. Plus the brightness is adjustable - I don't recall if it was previously.
