Unsold 2014 GL? vs. 2015 GL
we are about to replace our old car. we've finally narrowed it down to either X5 or GL(DH wants bigger car though we only have two small children in case our parents visits us). Now one of the nearest dealers in my city has an unsold 2014 GL 450. (he doesn't have any 2015 in stock for now). It is a new car, grey, and has all the options we wanted. I briefly talked him on the phone, he said he can take good 4 grand off (makes it about 71k) from msrp. Now I am wondering HOW low he could go.
Would 65k be too low for him to respond at all? Could we go lower?
Any input would be greatly appreciated! (e.g. "I would never buy 2014 GL" etc.) Thanks!!!

How many miles? Make sure it isn't a "demo"
If still new ie say under 150-200 miles, you need to get more than 15% off MSRP
If you negotiate hard and time it right (end of month), you can get a new 2015 GL for 10-15% off MSRP

Yes, make sure it's not a demo and it has less than a couple hundred miles on it. The '14 has a V8 biturbo, which makes it nice but it's still almost 2 years old. Due to depreciation, I wouldn't pay anything over 15% off. JMHO. The big question here is why it hasn't sold, especially considering it's "new". Do a thorough check to see if it had body work done also. Dealers will not disclose that sort of info unless you make them.

At the very minute you drive a new 2014 off the lot it's worth 20% less than MSRP (at best)! Make them an offer @ $60k and walk out if they say no. You might be surprised!

If you are in the US - I note you used the term "unsold 2014" - and FYI there are no new/new factory 2014 GL450's in the entire US in the system.
Depending on the particular state - dealer demo vehicles, or dealer service loaner vehicles - may or not be required to be titled again that varies by state.
In any event - based on what I see at hand - this "unsold 2014 GL450" has mileage - and would come with 4yr/50K mile new car warranty based on original in-service date in the Mercedes system, or 5yr/Unlimited Mileage CPO warranty - again based on original in-service date in the Mercedes system.
Either way - $4K off original 2014 MSRP - sounds like someone fishing for huge profit - once you know the real "facts" about that vehicle - you can make a informed decision.

Of course, all relative because a super beastly v6 honda accord or Nissan Maxima will probably outrun either.

I think the '14 is about 0.7 sec. faster than the '15, 0-60. Both are pretty quick for a full size SUV, IMO. Neither are "speed beasts/demons" by any standard. The 550/63 are close to being a beast but not quite; they are too big. The 6 other folks in the vehicle wouldn't want to be thrown around, I would think. At the end of the day, they are all BIG SUVs.
