Tire Mileage

How many miles are people getting out of stock Pirelli 20's? Mine are getting close to $20k but only have a few miles left on them. I've only rotated mine once which could be some of the problem. Do tires wear more not the front or rear of this car?

Well, it depends on how drive your vehicle. Most of the time its between 20k-30k miles due to the double wishbone suspension or multilink suspension which give the negative camber and causes inner tire wear. If you see any slightest cording of the inner tires, they need to be replaced.

The Old 2012 GL corded at 36k miles while driving the speed limit on the highway, which was dangerous.

I would just keep an eye on the inner side of the tires. And it really doesn't matter what tire you put, they are susceptible to wear due to the suspension design.

Mine are at 18,500 miles with 50% front and 60% rear tread life remaining (I have a tread depth gauge).. Rotated at 9,500 miles and will rotate again soon with 20k service. Most of my miles are highway.

on GLC300 #2, a 2022 CPO purchased b/c I really dislike the X254's UI (GL350 before those)
Is anothercar's suggestion of front wearing faster than rear over two rotation cycles typical? More wear in fronts?

That's what the spec sheet says after the 20k service and yes after 2 rotation cycles. That, of course, assumes that they did rotate the tires. Sometimes dealers 'forget' to rotate tires even though the service schedule recommends it. I asked and the service advisor said yes, they did rotate. I was not so diligent that I marked the tires before hand to check up on them. And I'd say more wear in fronts vs rears is typical.
I'm now at 27k miles and tread still looks good. Wear bars not showing. That said, I'll most likely replace the tires at 30k simply because I'm **** about having good tires on my cars and will trade the GL prior to end of warranty @ 50k.

Fronts wear faster. Most of the vehicles braking force is in the front. That equates to more friction on the front tires. Steering also takes its toll. That's why rotation is important to keep wear even and maximize the life of the tires.

My experience with both a 2010 X164 and a 2013 X166 has been that the right rear tire wears significantly quicker than the front tires. I do more highway miles so perhaps that's the reason I get better front tire mileage.

THERE IS ONLY “TOE” ADJUSTMENT OEM!

FOR SUV’S (163, 164, 166, 251) WE SAW THE NEED THEREFORE TO MANUFACTURE AND REINSTATE FROM THE EARLY 90’S PRECISELY ADJUSTABLE (SINGLE WRENCH, ON CAR) FRONT CAMBER AND CASTER KITS. NO MODIFICATIONS – SIMPLY REPLACE THE 4 FRONT HIGHEST WEARING (AND EXPENSIVE) OEM BUSHINGS ALLOWING “ONGOING FULL ADJUSTMENT” TO FIX IT RIGHT THE 1ST TIME!

ESSENTIAL IF WORN BUSHINGS, ALTERING SUSPENSION HEIGHT, LOAD CARRYING, FITTING WIDE PROFILE TIRES AND/OR CAPABILITY TO RETURN TO FACTORY SPECS AFTER CURB KNOCK DAMAGE.

CAMBER – Allows to actually change the tire contact angle resolving costly, premature edge tire wear improving traction/understeer/oversteer (TOE only alters wheel direction).

CASTER – Correctly resolves steering pull, increases steering response. With better turn in and high speed directional control, along with improved anti dive/lift under brake and acceleration.

No more ongoing trips to dealers or alignment shops or constantly changing tire brands because of Toe only adjustment OEM. Or the frustration of installing (front only) ‘offset’ bolts – to find they are inaccurate one only position – offering a minimal .3 or one degree!

We have changed all that. The K-MAC patented design provides up to 4 times the adjustment range of these ‘one’ position bolts. With single wrench precise adjustment and importantly on car accurately (under load) direct on alignment rack!

For the rear manufacture similar bushings also replacing the 4 highest wearing bushes. Doubles the existing adjustment range.

Both front and rear kits include extraction tools. Supplied with instructions and can be fitted without control arm removal.

Front 164, 166, 251 Camber and Caster #504016M $565
Rear 164, 166, 251 Camber and Toe #504026K $480

Front 163 (Camber only) #503916G $295
Rear 163 Camber and Toe #503926J $380

MB World members (USA/Canada) delivery $30 one kit or $40 front and rear.

Correction.......I'm approaching 30k miles. Have appt. for service A next week and will report tread depth at that time.
