Active Curve Malfunction warning
Car put on flatbed to dealer where it stayed from Jan. 5 to Jan. 22. They claim it was simply an "air lock" or air bubble and easily fixed. I am leaving many other details out that would leave any reader slack-jawed. The result of the nightmare was an offer of an extended warranty. On Feb. 26 the problem happened again. After a week at the dealer, they confirm they have no idea what is causing the problem. In roughly 93 days of ownership we have had the proper use of the vehicle for only 50 days. 43 days without. We have asked for our funds to be returned in full and our tax as well. No reply yet. The behavior of all involved at MBUSA has run the gamut from friendly, passive agressive, dishonest (which they have now admitted), useless, etc... More details upon request. Total nightmare. No offer of a rental.
Having owned a handful of MB and been raised driving only MB diesel products I am astonished at this experience. I keep looking around the corner to see if the ghost of Alan Funt is nearby. Stay tuned...
I will keep you posted. I have personally owned '95 E420, a '90 2.5 turbo D sedan, a '94 E320 Wagon, a 2001 E55 and now this car. I have driven, 240D, 300D in the 1970's, and 300Turbo D sedan and 300TE, 300 TD wagon (x3), a 6.9 (modified 450 SEL), two different 300SL Gullwings, and driven in, but not driven, a 600 Limo Pullman. All in the family. Each was perfect when driven and whatever problems each had were not too troublesome.
The latest update as of an hour ago is that they are going to try to replace a valve block for the hydraulic system. Sadly, at this point, the update should be sent to MBUSA because we have no interest in the vehicle. Man and his machines are imperfect but when you hand a 90K machine to a customer, run them around endlessly, lie (documented), etc...you would need your head examined if you think the customer should seek to continue owning the vehicle. My wife is about to land in Chicago and has meetings with the AMA and AOA. We shall see if the AMA (do not forget the Sunbeam distaster) wishes to help do the right thing. As it stands, MBUSA seems not to understand the difference between principle and principal.

After ordering the vehicle and waiting the usual 3 months, I drove the 5+ hrs to Boise the day after the vehicle was delivered. Upon arrival I was told..."well, you have to come back tomorrow, Thursday, because the person who can process your AMA discount is not here today". 30 mins later I had completed the paperwork. Funny how they managed to get it done when inspired to do so.
And as a side-note, notwithstanding the apparent compulsive dishonesty at VW (porsche audi), my Cayenne Diesel is a superb vehicle and awaits whatever tweak may be required to "make it honest". I do see a recent lawsuit filed in Washington State against Benz and their diesels (emissions) but have no idea if it is legit. Will be interesting to see. The husband of a good friend of mine managed the entire process that accidentally uncovered the entire VW scandal. I will ask him if he knows anything about the recent Benz suit. And will pass it along to those writing on the subject at the NYT. Danny Hakim is the best among those who have written on the subject. Most recently Jan. 21.
Maybe I should just stick with LandCruisers and any in-line 6 BMW.
