Speed Dial buttons?

Is there a way to speed dial phone numbers by touching a button?

In my BMW, I have 6 buttons that I can program to do anything within the iDrive system... speed dial phone numbers, radio preset, navigation preset, fuel economy screen, etc...

It's very convenient to just push a button and call home or my wife.

Since the GL is my wife's car, I'm not that familiar with the Comand system.

Does it have this capability?

How do you guys access frequently called numbers?

I have a button with a "star" on it in my wifes '14 E class right in front of the center armrest console. I'm not sure if your car has this too, but I know I programmed it to bring up the surround cameras when I need it at slow speeds. Maybe that button can be used to at least program one number. Or could it be programmed to bring up a main screen and then you could daily by a specific number?

Maybe a pro on this can chime in on how they do it.

(My wife fussed at me that her old '08 e class called people easier by pulling the stick on the steering column and saying, "call bob." "Call dad.")

Axxlrod,

I just bought a GL550 last week (came from an X5, so I know exactly what you're talking about. The Beemer's buttons are very handy).

Learned that in phone mode, you can set your favs in a speed dial list and dial by simply typing the memory number on the keypad. So home 1 / wife 2 / office 3, etc (ok, perhaps wife should be 1.. )
Caveat is that you first need to switch command to phone mode, so two button presses instead of one, otherwise it will bring up a different preset (in audio mode, it will pull up station presets for AM/FM/XM, etc).

Hope that helps. Just like BAC mentioned, you can also set a favorite number with the dedicated shortcut button *. I have that set up to bring up the 360 deg camera on command when I need it.

I see. Well I guess 2 button pushes isn't so bad.

Thanks. I will try this.

A gaggle of MB's
You check out using voice access in two ways:

1) while your iPhone is connnected by Bluetotth - one button press on iPhone handset to access Siri - in essence instructing the handset to dial it up over COMAND system

2) or check manual to add voice tags to selct phone entries in COMAND for voice-portal/one-button steering wheel access to "call up" and place tel calls on selected COMAND phone entires - access "Call Moma" etc with that Moma voice tag on your wifes cell - or like one of my customers "call Rat Face" which is his nickname/voice-tag for his attorney

I love my 2016 gl350
It is a lot easier through the voice command. I just say "call home" it immediately starts diling, even if it is on radio or navigation. Simple.
