Hello Guys,

I have found both the Media connector and USB connecters located in the center console useless in charging my iPhone. I have resorted to a dual port cigarette plug with very unsightly cables running from back of console to front seat. This is ridiculous on a $110k car!!! So, I am looking to modify my USB port to allow for higher amperage that should fix this problem. I first instinct is to find a qualified stereo installer but maybe I can handle this with some help from you guys. Has anybody done this???

I don't have the newer cable. I have the old one with an adapter and its similar in trickle charging. But I will definitely get one tomorrow and test.

The USB data port has 500ma charging capability per USB port specs think of it like a PC/data port

Yes - current flagship smartphones are best charged at controlled/regulated 2A+ - that is USB charging port..

Most owners find the right shortie 12v-port/cig-adapter charger to put in the 12V port front - or put it in the rear 12V - and run the charging cable up along the seat to the front...

I tried the MB USB to Lightning cable with little to no success! 1% per 15m. So, I am going to continue to pursue modifying the USB port to 2+ amps.

You have other issues.

You had me curious, so I noted how fast the cable charges my IPhone 6. Took it from 10 to 32% in 17 minutes.

I have a brand new GLA which charges my 6 Plus in record time from the USB ports inside the center console.

Yes, which would leads me to believe the charging ports/usb in the other car isn't working properly.

You don't need to modify the ports, they need to be repaired so they will work as intended.
