Question 2014 GL550 Standard Lane Keeping Assistance Package

Hi all,
I have a 2014 GL550 that does NOT have the Driver Assistance Package.

It has the "standard" Lane Tracking Package that consist of the Lane Keeping Assistance package (not to be confused with the ACTIVE Lane Keeping Assist included in the Driver Assistance Package).

I believe the standard Lane Keeping Assistance only issues a vibration warning when lane departure is detected vs "Actively" applying the brake to "pull" the vehicle back into the lane.

Currently, I have it set to "Adaptive", and while I've never seen anything visually in the dashboard, I've felt the steering wheel vibrate once or twice.

My question to the group is this ... With the standard package ... should there be some kind of visual indication in the dashboard that the sensor is recognizing the lines of the road?

I was thinking there should be white "lines" illuminated in center message center if it recognized the roadway lines, but maybe that's only if you have the "Active" package.

As I said, I've never had a visual acknowledgment or warning of any kind.

-Eric

The system does let you know it recognizes the lane and ready to use. But as you are crossing the lanes, it doesn't switch from green to yellow or red. Since your question is specifically if it recognizes the lines of the road, it does.

See pg 240/241:

https://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/Digital...al/2013_GL.pdf

If you drive at speeds above 40 mph (60 km/h) and lane markings are detected, symbol (1) is shown in green. Lane Keeping Assist is ready for use.

Does anybody know what makes the system to use passive or active lane assist? I have active assist. Sometimes it just vibrates, sometimes steer back into the lane. I just can't seem to find the pattern when the system do first or second.
