I just got a "Check Brake Pad Wear" message on my 2015 GL550. Upon visual inspection of the Outside Pads just looking inside the rim, the fronts are getting lower, but still have a decent amount left. The rears have quite a lot. I'm posting pics of the pads. Do you think I have plenty of time left on fronts or should I replace them soon and if so how many miles approx?
sorry if the pics are so big i didn't know how to resize them
The first 2 pics are the front pads, the last 2 are the rears
I think the warning from the brake pad sensor is a clue... front pair OE are list $200... internet about $170... Semi-Metallic Posi-Quiet like $40... get some MB brake "goo" for the backs of the pads... any competent brake/tire shop can do ..
He's right, inner is where sensor lives and gets more wear with advanced brake based systems, it's said.
Jacobsung, what was your old issue in the end, a sticking caliper or nothing done with the wheel not rotating last year?
I followed all scheduled maintenance by my local dealer. The dealer said "nothing" wrong with it. Those brake sliding pins were just lubricated and they got me free rear pads. Only 1K miles before the problem happened, dealer said my pads/rotors have plenty life left. I said the tech never really checked inner pads properly. It's still puzzling why.
