Changing rotors and pads.

I am planning on DIY change rotors and pads on x166, I have never done anything of this type, I am used to changing interior lights so far, how hard is it to do the job and because its related to brakes should I even attempt it. I have looked at YouTube videos but all are for x164 and it appeared difficult to me, any thoughts appreciated.

Lots of brake guidance avail on w166 and x166

Thank you. After reading its too complex for me, I will take it, does it need to be dealer or any mechanic should be good and does it effect warranty if I get them changed outside of dealer.

Wow, first you post how to DIY a routine but important task like brake that you've never ever tried before, a paradox in and of itself, but then after seeing all the DIY advice from those who did it themselves before you next ask if it has to be dealer only? It's a regular Euro car brake job, other than the trick on the Electronic Parking Brake. No repair from an outside shop voids a factory warranty because it was not done at the dealer, presuming the parts and methods themselves conform to the basic and sensible requirements - that is, don't use crappy parts and find someone experienced to do the work. Does it void your warranty to get new tires from a tire shop and not the dealer? Brakes and other wear items are no different under Federal law as to the warranty question that you ask. Your end results may vary greatly depending upon what parts you specify and/or provide and who does the work, but that's true of any purchase and the car's factory warranty remains the same.

There's plenty of data in what I linked, plus so much more discussion here that you might search, on which parts to use if not factory MB stuff, or how to get MB parts cheaper if that's your route (my brake engineer buddy says OEM pads with high quality rotors from any source often serve as the best outcome for those who want the same same). Or, just pay the dealer $1000+ and stop thinking about it.

Yes, I'm crabby. And this forum is seriously low on activity lately. It's also super stoopid that W166 and X166 each got split into two groups due to a mere marketing name change (and a barely there mid-cycle facelift) when answers just like this prove common to the entire platform despite if the car is called GL or GLS in our case, so I will never understand the logic here in contrast to benzworld with one forum for all where a guy like Lomtevas shares a running log to benefit both the guy who bought a GL in '16 and the gal who bought her GLS in '17 - same cars. No, there is not necessarily any connection among all these facts.
Now I'm done.

looks straight forward brake job for pads/rotors. Not that difficult if you have all the tools.. Glad to see Gl doesnt have SBC, which was an additional step to do before touching the brakes. I try to DIY what i can like brakes, fluid changes, suspension, some exhaust work... But for tranny and other motor related, i'll take it to a shop.
