I had to replace my driver side one last year. I did the passenger side one a few weeks ago after I got mine back Mercedes from a Turbo replacement. They weren't cheap and I don't have very much confidence on how long they'll last.

I just had both of mine replaces under the factory extended warranty. The right side was showing some signs of deterioration the left was fine. They replaced them both after I told them I know this is a common issue. They also replaced the right from strut because it was leaking and failed.

Nice - my dealership rejected me on my CPO ELW and I had to pay for mine (bought new ones on eBay). Nice job on the strut too - not sure if my dealer would cover it. My rear shocks are not covered under CPO ELW.

I am lucky. I have a great relationship with my dealer. I have been working with them for over 10 years. I have yet to have anything rejected under warranty.

I was to lazy to uninstall and measure the existing pipes and couplers. I had some left over PTP thermo tape. It is super stiff but also very malleable because it is basically woven steel encased in a heat proof resin. Check it out:

I wonder if MB uses the felt to help absorb humidity or for some other reason like cooling or air flow?

Old tread but I got a question: what's the intake hose diameter? Is it 3" or 4" (the side that goes to airbox)?
Many thanks!

I just replaced mine as they were both torn, drivers side worse as it was just about completely severed. I’d rig but it’s always fall back down and I bet intake was getting 50/50 engine bay air vs outside air.

I found similar ducts to the OEM on eBay for $90 (both L+R included). Not sure if it’s mental but the car seems to be shifting much more smoothly, mainly downshifts slowing down and torque converter disengagement feeling when letting off gas is much less clumsy. I read a comment above as well as another M278 forum (I think) that observed a similar outcome.

Doesn’t make any sense mechanically but there you go...

Just replaced my torn drivers side air intake hose with the Spectre Performance hose. (Amazon, ~$12) . One hose needed per side.
For some reasons, most of the MB parts stores no longer carry the Left side hose replacement.
Removing and replacing not a major problem.

I need to replace the left side intake hose on my 2015 GL350. Can you confirm which Spectre Performance hose you used? A link to the page on Amazon would be great.

New car for me, might be an old question. Where is the air filter on my '13 GL450?
