Best forum thread ever… 2015 GL550, and same thing. Just stopped working, but could hear it clicking. A couple good swift pounds on it, and she’s good as new. Thanks to whomever discovered that one!!

Mine just stopped working again, same thing as a about a couple years ago. I did not pound on it to fix it, although I did pound it, just did not help. It was something really simple, maybe disconnect the batter? I am trying to recall, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Push upward on the bottom of the wheel with your knees and continue pushing upward while lowering it. This is the only thing that reliably works for me. And it doesn't involve aggravated assault of your steering wheel.

Glad to see this is still working for people lol. Any dealer can do the software update, it's part of the "repair" process in the bulletin that is mentioned above for this concern. Usually if you mention to your service advisor that you are aware of some sort of bulletin for a fix for it, they can have the tech do the update. If you are out of warranty there will probably be a cost involved, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I did the same. Fixed mine in less than 10 secs. Thanks JP!

My wife told me our 2015 GL550 has the same problem. I'll try to hit to loosen trick later today. I did find this on youtube that shows some good good info on checking the motor, etc. He said he loosened the 13mm nut a bit to free it up. The force on the nut might be similar to the hitting the steering wheel to free the tilt motor?

So, you push the wheel up while pushing the button down??

Yes, that's what worked for me when nothing else did.

After following the steps in this video numerous times I still had the same problem, his suggested fix was not a solution for me at all.

So while my ML was in for some unrelated service work at the local MB dealer I mentioned to the SA I had this problem with the steering wheel height adjustment.... he jumped in the drivers seat and gave the wheel a good strong pull (which I was afraid to do) which resolved the issue.. this was about 18 months ago and the height adjustment continues to work flawlessly. YMMV.

Turned out to be a $7 dog one part for that fix that was a PITA to replace. Is this the same part on the GL-class that fails? If so, same part number?

Thanks in advance
I just bought my first Audi, a 2016 Q7 3.0 tdi. I wonder how the adjustment of the steering wheel is supposed to work. I can electronically adjust my steering wheel just a couple of centimeters up/down... It looks like it's possible to adjust the steering wheel highter (quite a gap on the leather between speedometer and steering column), but it just stops. Has anyone experinced this? I hardly see the top of the virtual cockpit with the seat at it's lowest

Hey guys ive tried everything for a Sclass No luck

Quick question does your motor make a noise when pushing the lever up or down?

Mine sound like something is spinning or churning when I move the lever up or down,

2015 ML350
My 2015 ML350 wheel was stuck too. Got the clicking sounds. So with the ignition on I fully extended the wheel, then hit the rim as hard as I could several times with the palm of my hand while holding the tilt lever down. Didn't work.
Was about to give up, so tried pushing up with my knees on the bottom rim, holding the tilt lever down and then hitting down on the inside of the wheel rim with a big rubber mallet. Three whacks and it freed up!!
I'm still laughing!
