Higher wattage bulbs can melt the headlight housing if you go too far. Upgrade to a HID conversion. Make sure to get the bulb with a metal base or you will struggle to get it back in the bulb holder

KK ... gonna experiment with LED "plug n play" with fan motor base to keep bulb cool ... it has one of the highest lumens for an H7 bulb ... hoping the extra motor base will fit inside the housing ... research has shown that a projector housing (my low beams) will not be as bright as a reflector housing (my high beams) ....

You are absolutely right because I currently have on installed on my 2014 GL450 and very disappointed. I am looking for a new kit to replace the LED. Do you know a source where I can purchase the HID kit with metal base?

No affiliation or experience with this seller but this is basically what I've been using. http://www.ebay.com/itm/55W-HID-XENO...wAPWxsLGIDN1hw

so why am I not surprised that replacing just the bulb, let alone the entire bulb / connector base is NOT user convenient ... so for my 2013 GL450 ... access to the low beams is through the front tire wheel wells ... removing the connector is not a simple plug and unplug ... seriously MB??? anyone has guidance, pictures, suggestions on whether this can be a fairly mechanical person DIY ??? ughhhh so frustrating ...

For me, the driver's side was easy through the wheel well, but the passenger's side was definitely more difficult. Finally got it, though.
