Extended warranty and third party
Hey guys, I plan on extending my warranty since I am close to 50 k miles mark. Do you guys recommend getting extended warranty with Benz or any other third party? Its about $3750 with Benz for another 3 years with 100 k miles.

I remember dealing with many of the different companies while still working at the dealerships for the past decade. As for coverage, Mercedess extended warranty will cover more than almost anyone and it will also lead to a faster turn around time (meaning you will get your car back faster). If you get a 3rd party warranty, they will have to send out inspectors if the repair estimate is over a certain dollar amount and many times, unless its very obvious, they can easily decline the repair or the claim. I've seen many unhappy people who regretted getting a 3rd party warranty.

I'm looking at possibly purchasing a 2013 GL550 with 50,300 miles. It is outside of the original factory warranty, so I'm not sure that coverage is available through MB. The dealer selling the vehicle is a Cadillac dealer that will sell a Cadillac warranty with exclusionary coverage and $100 deductible. I've read through the exclusions in a sample contract and they are pretty standard. Cost is $4800 for 3 yr/36k miles or $5800 for 4 yr/50k miles from date that I purchase the vehicle. I currently have a very similar policy on my S600. I purchased that car with 24k miles 37 mo ago and currently have 48k miles. That policy has already paid out $24k in claims (I paid $3300 for the policy for 7 yr/75k miles through my credit union).
My questions: Do the above prices seem to be fair for the amount of coverages on a GL550 starting at 50k miles? How problematic are these trucks and how expensive are the repairs?
I'm obviously way ahead of the game with my S600 warranty. But I'm wondering if I'm looking at a **** storm in repair costs if I elected to go without coverage.

daveW68, my understanding is you cannot buy the ELW for two reasons, 1) you have exceeded the 50,000 mile 2) you did not buy the car from a Mb dealer, but recommend you check. Good luck
