Talking GL Night Vision Package

Hi everyone,

I'm a longtime reader but a new forum member. The wife and I recently purchase our first new-to-us Mercedes Benz GL550. I must say, the forums have been very instrumental in helping us understand a lot of the aspects of the GL line.

The one thing I haven't seen is a night vision camera post, I've looked thru most of the X166 post but was not able to find anything. Does anyone have in the US a night vision camera? Was it even available in the states? This if for model years 2013 - 2016. I've looked high and low for a GL that had night vision option but, I was unsuccessful.

For the folks that do have it, do you find it helpful? Is it functional thru the foggy weather?

Regards!

I didn't know that this was an option for the X166.

I had it in my S600. It would come on right in the middle of the gauge cluster where eye movement was just a slight up and down thing. IMO, it was nothing but a party trick to show off to your buddies. You could see only slightly further than your normal vision could see at night....but it was like looking into a fish bowl since the scope of what you could see was very limited and not a wide angle. It likely causes more accidents than it prevents. And it's significantly worse in a GL since it requires that you look at the nav screen in the center stack. It does not improve vision in rain, snow, & fog as it reflects that stuff. A complete waste of money for anybody who paid extra for that option.

Have it on 2014 GL550. Waste of money-need to look at Nav screen and doesn't highlight as newer units do

I had this on my W166 ML550 and is one thing I wish I still had... there are at least two deer and one human that are still alive because it picked them up before I did.
